It's the type of decision that would have went against us in the past, such was our relationship with the footy gods before Fly.

The Maynard rule? Brayshaw hit sparks proposed MRO change
The AFL has written to clubs with a series of proposed rules amendments ahead of the 2024 season

^^Any player who jumps in any way and hits a player gets suspended as they can apparantly change directions whilst in the air. This is a knee-jerk reaction by one person who wants to reinvent the wheel.

Less concerned about the rule than the reaction from the AFL. Read the small text about their change in interpretation of run down tackles from behind. That classic highlight from 2023 Round 1 where Moore mowed down Henry in the goal square could become a reportable offence. Can’t bump, can’t jump, can’t spoil in the air can’t mark. Where going to be reduced to table hockey and SuperCoach only at this rate

They should call it 'The Premiership Bump' rule...

Anything to stop any thing a Collingwood player did legally to gain an advantage 🙄 We can’t have that kind of mentality in the AFL 😱 Anything to thwart Collingwood’s progress!

Maybe if the leaping player could deploy a parachute?

FFS... It happened one time!

^^ actually you're on the right track.
Maynard is a Magpie - he should have used his wings
Instead he was demonised by the Demons

The real question is - will it apply retrospectively, so that the AFL can void the premiership for playing an ineligible player (you know they really, really want to)?

Let's address the real Elephants in the room [forum] here:

If Maynard got suspended in QF [even 1 match] - do we still win the Premiership without him?
No. Irreplaceable as Moore and JDG as critical moving parts of the machine.

If Brayshaw hadn't got concussed in QF, do we still beat Melbourne?
Grrrr.... No. He was getting his hands on the ball way too often, and I suspect would have been the difference, in comparison to the spud sub they selected.
Thus it would have been Carlton, then Lions at Gabba, to get back to the MCG to play either GWS, or Dees again...

The rule changes are largely ineffective. They'll all play out the same in the tribunal - it will just lead to more tribunal hearings, mainly for tackles.

As for the smother. One incident across a season so unlikely to have any impact.

I strongly object to it being referred to as the Maynard rule. Very strong

me too

I am watching the game on my treadmill. Brayshaw was clearly dazed after knocking his head on someones knee, for which he received a free 5 min before the incident. he should not have even been on the field.

it was an accident, and if anything, he moved his body away, where as brayshaw wobbled into Braydens landing zone.

After the cries for Maynard to be hung, drawn and quartered following his collision with Angus Brayshaw last year I expect similar from Golf Australia, to ban Brayshaw from playing golf again.

Melbourne midfielder Angus Brayshaw has hit a wayward tee shot at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club, striking another golfer on the head!
