Wouldn't of risked how anyway at his age. The backline is still holding up well without him. Kelly is a massive surprise however. From a broken elbow to possibly coming back first week of the finals is remarkable Smile

Glad they're no risking Howe. For starters he'd be underdone and secondly it's not worth taking the risk and then having him miss most of next year if the knee goes again. At least this way he gets another few months of recovery and then can have a full pre season and be cheery ripe for round 1 2021.

Can't see Kelly getting a game. Hasn't proven himself enough to be dropped into a final after a long lay off.

Yep —his time will come. But Mayne would be handy on wing seeing Sidey a no show

Thank you Magpietothemax.

Quote:
Flynn Appleby
2-3 weeks off with the hamstring strain.

Jeremy Howe
Significant knee injury has proven too much to get back for finals. Howe continues to rehab to be right for 2021.

Will Kelly
One week away from full fitness. Progressing very well from elbow surgery.

Chris Mayne
Joined non-contact training this week. Looking to be available for the first final.

Nathan Murphy
Similar to Mayne, joined in non-contact training this week and will continue to progress as he receives the necessary ticks of approval from the surgeon.

Tom Phillips
2-3 weeks of rehab to go with hamstring issue sustained against Brisbane.

Trey Ruscoe
Stretched hip joint. A test to be available.

Tom Langdon
As per Nathan Buckley on Saturday, Langdon suffered knee soreness in the practice match against Brisbane. Continues to take a cautious approach in getting back to full fitness.

Brayden Sier
Now back in full training after injuring his quad against Adelaide.

https://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/816234/r18-an-update-on-our-injury-list

Good news:
Sier, Ruscoe, Mayne, Kelly, Murphy are close.

Bad news:
Langdon not looking great and Howe wont play until 2021.

Unless you’re a bona fide super star, it’s a lot to ask mere mortals to come back after missing so much footy and expect them to adapt to finals tempo within minutes of the opening bounce.

Well apart from a few headknocks and a scare to Roughy, we got through last night ok.

Unofficially:

Quote:
Brayden Sier (Quad, Test)

Trey Ruscoe (Hip, Test)

Will Kelly (Elbow, 1 week/Test)

Chris Mayne (Cheekbone, 1 week/Test)

Nathan Murphy (up to 2 weeks)

Flynn Appleby (Hamstring, up to 3 weeks)

Tom Phillips (Hamstring, up to 3 weeks)

Tom Langdon (Knee, Indefinite/Season)

Jeremy Howe (Knee, Season)

Steele Sidebottom (Personal, Season)

Even though the AFL website has updated their list today, they've made too many mistakes in the past two weeks for me to repost (They've added Reid again), but you can check it out here: https://www.afl.com.au/matches/injury-list

Quote:
Collingwood has unfortunately had to rule a line through Howe's season, meaning he won't return as hoped for the finals following a nasty knee injury. A number of players could return for an elimination final against West Coast, though. They include Mayne, Ruscoe and Sier, but Phillips is another couple of weeks behind. Riley Beveridge

Good news:
Sier, Ruscoe, Mayne and Kelly should all be available for selection for the elimination final or practice game that week. Murphy, Appleby and Phillips will have to wait until at least the semi final week if we make it that far.

Bad news:
Langdon will not get back this season and may be forced to retire. Howe wont play until 2021. And obviously Sidebottom wont be joining us either.

An update on West Coast:

Quote:
The Eagles have all but conceded Yeo will miss the first final with his recovery from a groin injury taking longer than expected. Kennedy suffered an ankle injury against the Roos but should be fit in a fortnight's time. McGovern remains in a race against time, but it's hoped Redden, Shuey, Hutchings and Jetta will be available for selection. Cripps will be available for the first final after his partner gave birth during the week. - Mitch Cleary

Geez, it absolutely sucks that they get Cripps back after his wife gave birth.

Sheed returned last week, and it also looks like they'll get Kennedy, Redden, Shuey, Hutchins, Jetta and maybe McGovern back. The bye will hurt us from that angle.

Yeo will not play. But he's missed the last several weeks.

Quote:
West Coast: Josh Kennedy (1 Week/Test), Lewis Jetta (1-2 weeks), Luke Shuey (1-2 weeks), Mark Hutchings (1-2 weeks), Nathan Vardy (1-2 weeks), Jack Redden (2-3 weeks), Jeremy McGovern (2-3 weeks), Elliot Yeo (2-4 Weeks), Mitch O'Neill (4-6 weeks), Ben Johnson (Season), Jamaine Jones (Season), Willie Rioli (Season), Daniel Venables (Season), Francis Watson (Season).

If we are talking about them being in the team then it shows how poorly we are placed to have a crack at the flag. One had scraped out every little bit of talent he has left and is now fumbly and very slow. I assume he will retire at season's end. The other may become an AFL player one day but all he has on his resume at the moment is part of one game where he kicked an opportunist's goal, and a bad error in judgement which led to his injury.

Presti I read on a Facebook site Langdon is heading out of hub back to Melbourne when team departs for WA have you heard anything ?

I thought I read somewhere teams were considering staying in QLD even over off season in case Covid breakouts gets worse
Is that set in stone yet or was it just something the AFL threw up to see how it landed ?

Have to give the strength and conditioning coaches a tick this year.
Or is the myth of the hard ground at the soon to be renamed Holden Centre still lingering? Or is it simply training away from this Bermuda Triangle of soft tissue injuries a factor?

Elliott and Moore effectively through the season unscathed. Adams, Pendles, Sidey, all of our top liners have had relatively uninterrupted seasons.

The injuries to JDG, Howe & Kelly while unfortunate aren't from strength and conditioning issues.

May it continue.

LH, I don't buy this myth that only soft-tissue injuries are the fitness guys' thing.

But if we want to stick to that, we have had Treloar (again, and twice this season), Pendlebury (unusually and worryingly), Appleby (again?), Sier (again, with questions over whether he should have played three more quarters injured), Flip (unusually -- he should be too slow to tear a hamstring)... just for starters with soft-tissue injuries this year.

Sidebottom not being injured is not unexpected at all, especially since he's hardly played a game.

Why does Kennedy always seem to get up for us. Sad I guess this time around he hasn't missed any football, but I've been able to count at least four times previously in which he came back from a stint on the sidelines because of illness or injury just to play us – most notably twice in 2018 (both for the Round 17 match and the qualifying final).

Cos our forwards can't shoot straight from the grassy knoll.
