Johnson has played ruck in the VFL, and throughout his journey around the country. It's not completely unfamiliar to him. His leap makes him competitive at centre bounces but he'd be killed at boundary throw ins against any decent AFL ruck.

Johnson cannot be our third best ruck option. I just cant see it happening. It would certainly be contrary to how I think the coaching staff are trying to develop players.

Let's see I suppose - teams out in an hour or so. If Johnson does come in I think we are more likely to see McStay ruck and Ash stay forward.

I wonder with Cox going out, if they might give Checkers until right up to the game to prove his fitness? (although Fly probably knew about Cox yesterday at the press conference when he made his comments).

It appears there has not been a football team from Savernake since 1930!

Must admit, even originally being a Riverina lad, I'm not sure I've been to Savernake, although maybe it was a blink and you'll miss it visit, as I've been to Berrigan many times.

We could do what Cats some times do. They use Hawkins as spare ruck in fwd line
That roll could be McStay

I get the feeling that we might be about to announce the selection of Ash Johnson for Friday night. There is video footage of his goals in 2022 on the CFC website, perhaps placed there to celebrate his first game for 2023. This suggests to me that Checkers will be out as well as Cox, so Johnson will come in keep our structure more intact with another tall.
Just a guess. As the other replacement, I think McInnes will get called up for his first full game of the season.

Why would you go to Berrigan? It's a step down from Finley which is a shithole (although both are still better than Jerilderie), Tocumwal is the jewel in the southern Riverina.

Great pickup! Ash in, Cox out, Checkers stays in.

Maybe they make Reef sub again knowing he can get a whole game in the VFL Saturday if needed.

Hopefully Checkers is definitely in and is good to go. If he is truly fit, then the inclusion of Ash for Cox looks good. McStay can ruck in the forward line, and still have Johnson as a second tall nearby as Checkers resumes his role of often roaming upfield. McStay may also have to go into ruck for short intervals just to give Cameron a breather, but then we still have two talls in the forward line.
If Checkers is a late withdrawal, then that does mess with our game plan. I think then that McInnes comes in to play mostly forward along with Johnson. I notice that Wilson has also been named as emergency, so maybe the intention is to bring him in should Checkers need to withdraw from the team.

They say Cox to miss the lions match as well and a possibility of coming back for saints game with his condition it takes a week for the blood clot to be removed and another week to it to heal and settle then another week to re gain fitness so saints buy more likely Anzac Day as definite come back
But for checkers he will definitely play tomorrow night Johnson in and reef the sub

I think so too. Checkers more likely than not to be replaced

Ash J playing. Smart move actually, regardless of fitness — going to be wintry conditions, cold and wet

Who thinks that michocek will play and if not we will lose to richmond I’m starting to get a bit worried that we have too many key players out already we are without Howe and lipinski added onto Cox

Ash is 193 cm and Brody is 192cm.
Like for a like.
But I wonder with Ash not giving 100% over the break will that impact his selection?

I'm sure Ash will give 100%. Very happy he's back.
