He’s dropped off a fair bit in his last two games. Not sure why but it’s no big deal, particularly when he only played a handful of games last season.
His ball use and decision making is very good and given that he excelled at the Combine in most areas, there’s plenty to work with.
At 194cm, he remains a project player and that’s as much about finding his true position more than anything. His time will come but unless we’re decimated by injuries anytime soon, it won’t be this season.

It’s no bad thing to serve a longer apprenticeship. Being thrown in before you’re ready can affect longer term performance and confidence. Think Jack Watts. In Fly’s vernacular, he wasn’t setup for success. I have every faith that Allan is.

When does the Club conduct their 'official' weigh ins and update the player bio's?
Reviewing the training footage, he appears a heavier than his listed weight of 84kg, particular through the hips legs. Maybe the weight sessions have simply left him more defined.

I recently read somewhere that AFL current policy is to not record players’ weights due to concerns it feeds into some people’s eating/body image disorders.

^ only by the AFL in their 2024 season guide. Clubs are left to make their own calls.
I don't want my own published atm...

VFL Practice match: Key Takeaways ~ Allan impresses through the middle
Despite the loss, various players stood up through the game on a hot afternoon.
Second-year midfielder Ed Allan was fantastic through the centre of the ground on Friday, finding plenty of the ball in space and in the contest. The 19-year-old’s increased endurance was a feature as he bobbed up in many of the side’s damaging plays all across the ground. Often using his height to his advantage, Allan dished quick hands to his teammates, while also weaving his way out of traffic on multiple occasions.

Great news re 19-year-old’s increased endurance was a feature. Often where young players get found out late in the season, they simply don't have the stamina to be able to maintain the rigours of playing a senior football.

This kid is exactly the type of player (apart from a genuine FF or CHF) we need - highly skilled, big bodied and fast midfielder. Hopefully he'll make his way into our senior team by the end of the season, if not before.

For me, it's what he is likely to develop into. Time.
Keep developing, gain some strength and learn to be damaging for 120 minutes.

I'm very excited about the potential of Ed Allan to develop into a midfielder similar to what Tom Greene does at GWS. Whilst he was being played initially on the wing in the VFL I think this year he has graduated into the midfielder and I think he will be the premier midfeilder in the VFL team this year until he breaks into the AFL team.
I think that Ed Allan is the person who will eventually replace Pendlebury as our big body in the middle or playing on the wing when Sidebottom retires.

He'll be 20 in May, 18 games into his VFL. His 194cm frame should end up carrying close to 90kg at the midpoint of his career and by then build up the endurance to carry that weight.

I watched most of his VFL games, he showed that he's durable and wins his own ball. The innate trait he possesses that I like is he demands the footy, he wants it in his hands. They're the characteristics you want in an onballer.

Where we lost out in Tyler Brown was he the opposite to that. While he possessed similar physical traits, he would go missing in games.
I wonder if Tyler was a frustrating player to coach (I believe Johnson falls into this category) and simply didn't evolve his game craft sufficiently in order to become AFL quality.

I reckon Allan will become a 30+ accumulator in the VFL this year. String a few of those together and he'll soon be banging down the door for a berth in the senior side.

How have his performances been in the VFL?

Can we be excited to see him break into the seniors for a couple of games this year?
