Post subject: Smiling Mind - Dealing with Anxiety and/or DepressionReply with quote

If anyone is experiencing some anxiety or depression or just wants to try mindfulness or meditation, I recommend an app called Smiling Mind. My GP recommended it to me and I've found it very helpful the past week. It's free and easy, doesn't require a great time commitment, just a few minutes at a time as a start.

I'm learning how to slow myself down instead of being a bull at a gate so much, and just to STOP. Simple, effective and works for me. Give it a try.

Let us know how it works for you. I've been doing the sessions every morning after breakfast for the past week.

Cheers Stui, I'll report back.

I tend to find if I don't get my morning walk in, and further compounded by weather, I get off track pretty quickly.

Meditation is a great way to quieten down the mind, in my case really sets me up for the day.
Admittedly I find it hard some days to get into the meditative zone.

If all else fails, I just go back to Round 23 and watch the last 5 minutes.

I was diagnosed with chronic depression many moons ago and have been on anti depressants for a while. I have attempted to get off the pills a few times but it only caused me to relapse badly each time. However I’m always open to other options and will gladly download this app. Thanks for the tip.

Sorry to hear that Lazza, there's 2 other online resources I'm trialling, Mindspot and Moodgym, both free and Australian if you're interested.

For those who had a go at Smiling Mind, any thoughts? I'm curious on how others react to stuff like this.

Thought I'd bump this, another really good resource for anyone working on their head.

https://www.compassionatemind.co.uk/

Interesting, when I thought of Compassion previously I thought emotion, empathy, showing compassion for someone.

My Psych explained that in this context, it's slightly different. She said that a Firefighter entering a burning building to save lives is a compassionate act.

In that context, Compassion was defined as making a measured decision to take action to help, not harm. Not reckless bravery, but measured, deliberate, thoughtful positive action with good intent.

Check out the Audio Resouces lazza, there's several short sessions you can listen to on your phone, tablet or computer.

My Psych got me to do the Posture, Faces and Voice Tones one by Paul Gilbert which I found interesting.

And Cheers Jim.

I've been using Smiling Mind for some time now, my previous counsellor got me into using it just after my parents passed. She thought it would be a good tool to have with everything going on. It has been a good app to use.
