"discriminatory" alcohol ban, yet it clearly worked.

Is it right to change a law for ideological reasons when the evidence strongly shows that the law had helped achieve it's desired purpose?

I really hope The Voice referendum gets up, in the currently suggested form which lets Parliament legislate how it works which means they can tweak and change it when they inevitably **** it up in the first few goes or as time passes and revamp is required.

I'm losing confidence in Albo's ability to achieve that.

With respect to Alice Springs I’m glad Dutton is being called out for politicising this issue. Like the other creep years ago who lost his seat when the Libs were in Government under ? Howard ? Abbott when they went OTT with their politicisation of issues facing the Aboriginal community.

With respect to the Voice there’s a lot of water to go under that bridge. However the ALP needs to fill the vacuum it’s left by not wanting to offer too much detail allows the wreckers to fill the void.

Dutton seems to agree with his NT colleague, Labor MP, Marion Scrymgour who claimed the Voice "couldn't be further from people's view" in the territory, saying we "can't have these conversations" while crime prevention remains inadequately resourced.

How is it a discriminatory law if the First Nations communities want it?

Latest resolve poll.

Yes = 60%
No = 40%

Down from 64-36 in August/September 2022.

The poll also has a state by state breakdown.

Very good article I thought. Not sure if I completely agree with the conclusion but agree with the contents of it.

Seems like Lidia Thorpe has resigned from the Greens. I'd call that a win for them, despite Bandt saying he tried to talk her into staying.

^ She's next level nutter. She makes Pauline look like a moderate.

^

She's loud, passionate about her opinions, self serving, and as bright as a busted light globe. In that regard, very similar to Pauline.

She associates with crim bikey gangs, so she has Pauline well covered on the nutter scale.

A fair bit of what she says is spot on however how she says it is an issue. While most Pollies have to have a degree of narcissism she seems to have a few pollies worth of it.

Gets in on the Greens money and name then gets to spend 6 years as an independent before getting the ass. A great con artist as well as a nut case extremist.

Feels like a win-win to me. Having someone in parliament to advocate radical pro-sovereignty views isn’t a bad thing – there are plenty of extreme opinions on the other side being represented as it is, and having a diversity of positions in the senate enables both a more vigorous politics in this country and, yes, a more representative chamber (let’s not forget how few Indigenous politicians there have actually been in the country’s history). On the other hand, I strongly felt that the Greens were never a good fit for Thorpe’s take-no-prisoners, tilting-at-windmills, ultimately ill-disciplined approach; there’s a difference between a "broad church" and the country’s only significant progressive party being held captive by one loose cannon set on a narrow and marginalising political approach.

I think the best thing that can come out of this is that she starts her own party (e.g. one focused primarily on Indigenous sovereignty) or joins up with an established group like the Victorian Socialists. That’ll be a fruitful move for her and, honestly, gives the Greens some much-needed clean air.

I also doubt there’ll be much outrage from Greens voters directed her way over this – and they’re the only ones who can reasonably be crying foul here. Any complaints from the right are just crocodile tears; the Sky News After Dark crowd seemed to have few if any issues with Craig Kelly or Cory Bernardi striking out on their own, after all. And it’s fruitless to complain about democracy being trashed when elected politicians leaving or switching parties is entirely compatible with our democratic system.

The Greens have a right to be pissed off, they invested heavily in her, gave her the top position on the card, and worked hard to try to keep her on a leah, albeit a long one, but as David said it was never going to work nd they are the victims of their own poor judgement.

As far as her creating her own party, I can't see it. She's got 5 years left in the senate to learn how to play the game better and potentially get relected as an independant if she does.

She’s got zero chance of being re-elected so she’s got 5 years of her political career left.
