<Split from the post-game discussion thread for the Port match. Talk all you like about whether or not Nathan had any redeeming qualities as a coach - but don't spoil other topics with it. Thanks, Pies4shaw for BBMods>

So can the Buckley’s Brigade finally admit those who bagged him weren’t ‘sad s@cks’ but the realists we always claimed to be?

Amazing how things can turn around with a new coach and losing some highly paid underperforming baggage.

He came within a kick and a shocking umpire decision of winning a flag in 2018 GF, would have been a Coaching legend, and we did play PFs under him too. Granted, his time had come, and he went with grace, he knew that, but he did start playing some of the kids we have doing the job now, too. Fly himself acknowledged Bucks contribution. Surprised

Understand something. He had Longmuir and Boyd as assistants. The 2 years they were there, they made GF an a Prelim they should have won. They left and downhill we went. But Fremantle took off.
Buckley set us back 10 years.

No he did not, thats rubbish, you can denigrate a club champion all you like, one kick away from a flag robbed by an umpire shocker decision, and by the way, Freo took off, thats a joke, the got pulverised by the Dees last night, so looks like thats your theory gone out the window good and proper. Fly himself appreciated Bucks contribution, and id take his word over yours any day of the week. Rolling Eyes Surprised

Let’s face it Bucks was a shit coach. We wasted 10 years and the 2010 premiership team had another flag or two in them. This one kick from a flag is a load of crap. When you look at the history books, we didn’t win the flag, one kick or not.

Jeez real charmers you lot are, denigrate a club champion, real charmers, is Ross Lyon a shit coach cos he never won a flag,or Bob Rose, with us, or Tom Hafey ? cannot beleive the hate losers like you have for him, his time was up, yes, and he left with dignigy, something you and your fellow losers know very, little about. very little. At the end of the day Piesnchess, those that didn’t rate Buckley were attacked and abused and called Carlton supporters because we dared to suggest he was a crap coach. Yet first season without him and the team is flying, clearly proving us right.

So yes we will enjoy the success and being proven right, the fact you still think it’s personal and we are in anyway denigrating Buckley’s playing career says it all. It seems you put some players ahead of the success of the club.

Yep and this oh we nearly won a GF rubbish ignores the fact we blew a grand final due to shit coaching. They kicked the first 5 goals then thought they could defend that lead for 3.5 qtrs…

No, but he did lay the groundwork last season with kids like Jack and Henry, Mc Creery, Murphy, he brought them in first, not Fly. He left with dignity, he dd his best with the players he had. Fly paid tribute too him, and there are alot of coaches who never even get their sides to a GF, like Ken Hinkley, the Dons coach, saints too, hes far from alone. I just dont get the hate for him, its just not on. Confused

Your talking about the same Buckley that said we didn’t have the cattle to play the game plan we are now. We wasted 10 years on this guy, he made countless players leave the club for the biggest dud coach the club has ever seen. We handed him a premiership team and he couldn’t do it with them. A complete dud. I never liked him as a player or as a coach. One man isn’t bigger than the club.

For Buckley we lost - Shaw, Didak, Thomas, Wellingham, Dawes, Davis, Cloke and many others I’ve missed. Not to mention players that left when he came over as a player.

Everyone forgetting the two years of covid, Eddie and the racism, Treloar trade and Stephenson drama? We’ll see how Fly goes if he ever has to deal with two years of that. What we’re seeing this year is a team who have shaken off all the drama from the past two years and have a huge weight lifted off their shoulders. New coaches are undoubtedly a reason for this, but it’s no sleight on Bucks considering what he had to endure in his final years

Yep, correct weight. I was no fan of Bucks from day one but I thought you nailed it. The board had a lot to answer for as did the footy manager to allow those terrible contracts and lack of due diligence (Beams) to take place.

Bucks did leave with dignity and the Virus / lockdown did us no favours as did a wretched run with injuries.

Your point about the coach is well made.

A very poor coach who should never had been given 10 years, but for the clueless sycophants who had too much say in the running of the Club.

Him and Eddie Everywhere almost tore the heart out of this Club, not deliberately I'll grant you, but through shear bloody ineptitude. Results speak for themselves

I would be happy to let bygones be bygones, but some posters seem intent to attribute our current success to that inept administration, why I do not know

Pfft, it’s not the coaches or even the players. It’s us! The crowd is back and the Collingwood chant is lifting then 😂

Seriously though, quite a few of our players have never played in front of the Collingwood faithful until this year
