I didn't see the game but looking at the stats and considering the fat bastard he was up against I would have thought Grundy needed another week in the VFL.

^ I said it elsewhere - but surely if they were thinking of playing Grundy against Melbourne they would have given him a hit-out first against Port. Port don't even play a ruckman, so it wasn't much of a risk. Seriously, they use GWS' former 3rd-tall and their own full-forward.

I think “we” would be mad to play Grundy this week as neither Cox nor Cameron deserve to be dropped. Grundy is not match ready and one more week in the VFL can get him ready (if he is to play). Playing Sidanee in Sidanee would be ideal for him however in my view in the first instance Grundy should be kept as backup for Cameron and Cox should either of them be injured.

Just some numbers that may sway opinion on Josh Carmichael.
While Josh Carmichael may yet replace Adams, he will not be replacing him as an inside mid anytime soon. It generally takes a couple years of development before most players can elevate themselves to AFL standard as a starting mid fielder.
Josh Carmichael by the numbers from four games ( 2 as activated sub )
Kicks - 44
Handball - 11
Centre square attendances - 17
Centre square clearances - 0
Possessions in the centre square - 6 ( counted as in general play )
The kid has been brilliant to come from where he has and make such a positive impact but he is a long way from becoming a centre clearance mid fielder who can hold his own.
Right now he’s predominantly a high half forward who comes into the game as a canvas to be painted on. Hopefully the finished product will be worth hanging on a wall.

This week tells us whether we are the real deal or not. We got them on QB when they were in a slump and without Gawn. But now they are playing very good football. If we can overcome them, we can win the flag. I don’t expect it, as we have just been getting over lowly teams, but we are a team on the rise and they are at their peak. So now, we see where we are really at. It’s our biggest game of the year by a country mile. I am hoping that Johnson has a breakout game, as there is something special about him and it is the rise of players like him that will move us into contention.

Gawn played, it was May that was absent.

You’re right. He was very banged up with something and I think he spent a few weeks out after that game. Had no influence against us that day.

Watching last two games, i suspected Howe carries some kind of injury.
Grundy should stay in the 2s for one more week.

Out: Howe, TA.
In: Madgen, C Brown.
Sub: Carmichael

Pies to win by 3 points

In:
* Mihocek
* Carmichael (time in the middle may well beckon, but sometime in 2023. Until then, he looms as a damaging Half Forward. Let's see if he has the defensive requirements over 4 quarters to compliment his offensive nous)

Give Grundy a full run against Williamstown this weekend. Young Tom Downie is coming off a BOG performance, so it'll be a good challenge for Grundy to prove he's ready for senior recall.

Out:
* Adams (inj)
* WHE - "the ghost" needs to bring something more than cameos.

B: Maynard Moore Murphy
HB: Noble Howe N Daicos

C: J Daicos JDG Sidebottom
Foll: Cameron Crisp Pendlebury

HF: Johnson Mihocek Carmichael
F: Elliott Cox Ginnivan

Int: Bianco, IQ, Lipinski, McCreery

SUB: Madgen - has been playing well, and kicking them in the magoos, so if Mihocek doesn't come up, release the Madge. Has similar bulk, so no reason he can't come in to fill a temporary void. You know he'll give his all.
Equally if Howe is rested as a precaution, bring in the Madge.

Some big bodies in the Dee’s midfield. Crisp and DeGoey will play the most minutes in the middle right? Maynard to play a few minutes their too. We don’t have many big bodies otherwise, lots of light weight runners with Lipinski, Daicos, Noble etc.

What do we do with Pendles this time? Can he spend more time back in the middle now? He’s not the in and under we’ve lost with Tay.

Carmichael the sun again given the Dee’s hard running.

Herald sun reporting that Tay Adams has been ruled out for the rest of the home and away season, and will be "reassessed" over the coming weeks. That is a savage blow. Do we, at this stage of the year, bring in Finn McCrae on the back of some good form in the VFL to get some game time in case we need to call on him during the finals?

To me, Carmichael fills the brief best, with Magden the medi sub.

Bit harsh on Hosko. He’s been excellent the last month I reckon.

As I said in the Bianco thread, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cal Brown in for Adams. Carmichael seems to have played mainly high forward, not inside mid.

I'd keep Carmichael in the side and drop Bianco to medical sub.

If Checkers is fit, he's in and I'd be tempted to give Grundy another run in the VFL but if Checkers stays out, bring in Grundy, plonk him at CHF, keep Cox and Cameron and give May and Lever something to think about

Without WHEE, we’d have lost vs the Suns and Port. Of course he stays.
