Taberner has just never got his body right, cruelled by injuries. Would need a pretty stringent medical, bloke can play though.
These articles rarely look past names & positional requirements so who knows what their living / lifestyle arrangements are. I wouldn't expect a big money contract to be put in front of him, it'd have to be similar to McStays.
Trouble is what then happens in 2025? Could Taberner or McStay go to FB? Might extend Taberners career and continue the long line of gifts from Freo.

There are so many options for the club. It will be interesting to see which way they go.
Graeme Wright/ Hines have a great record of bringing in the right players...

Josh eyre has just turned 21 - he was bidded in by Richmond in 2020 draft, which Essendon matched, the recruiting manager saying that he is a great talent who will excite the fans for many years, but he was let go 2 years later. He then trialled at st.kilda but could not win a spot there, so whilst a lot you read about him sounds good, he has not impressed anyone else.

That being said, given our needs, he is certain to get a spot on our list.

We've managed to make some pretty decent players out of those who have "not impressed anyone else"...

For any club to participate in the MSD and select a player, they must have an available spot on their list by 5pm (AEST) on Tuesday, May 30.
How a list spot can open up:

*An AFL-listed player retires during the season
*An AFL-listed player is placed on the long-term injury list

Clubs that participate in the Mid-Season Rookie Draft will select in reverse ladder order, which is set at the conclusion of Round 11.

AFL Mid-Season Draft Eligibility
A player is now eligible to nominate for the Mid-Season Rookie Draft (MSRD) under any of the following:

The player nominated for the most recent National Draft but was not selected;
Players who committed for a further year as a 19-year-old Northern or NGA Academy Player are available to all clubs should they nominate for the MSRD.

The player has previously been on the list of an AFL club (and are therefore not required to have nominated for the most recent National Draft). This refers to the following situations:
A delisted player. A player delisted by a club cannot be reselected in the MSRD by the same club in the period immediately following their delisting unless they nominated for the most recent draft.

A retired player and/or a player who has delisted himself and has not been on an AFL list for one year or more.

A player currently registered in one of the WAFL, SANFL, TSL or VFL and have played a minimum of three matches by the close of nominations on Wednesday 24 May 2023.
The player must have been 18 years of age prior to 1 January 2023
A player meeting the above criteria does not need to have nominated for the most recent National Draft.

I’m more interested in the Rookie B rules this year. Alex Condon reaches the 3 yr no play mark just in time for selection should his basketball dreams evaporate.

We have eyes on 21 yr old wingman Max Holmes...
It's only fair we pinch him, afterall they got Ollie Henry

I would LOVE this. Would walk right into the team as the ideal replacement for Sidebottom.

From the Free agents list the AFL website shared yesterday;

* They mention WCE are right into Tim English. But I say why not us? If you can believe it, he'll be 27 in August. Still feels like he is in his early 20s. Ugle-Hagan is out of contract, but is not a free agent. And we've obviously been linked to Bailey Smith already. But English would be a massive inclusion to a team that are flag favourites and also need a ruckman.

* Marshall would be ideal, but the news is that he has signed a big contract that'll be made public soon.

* Lions pair Jarrod "50 Metre" Berry is unlikely and I doubt we could get Hugh McCluggage over the line... Cool

* Ben Ainsworth would also be a player that will be highly sort after in free agency.

Anyone peak your interest?

Forget about English. As long as Wright has an apeture in his buttocks we will not be paying big money for a ruckman ever again.
