^Yeah, definitely no love lost there.

It's just infuriating watching events in what feels like slow motion. It's as if the world is snookered, which of course the ba$tard knows. You do hope serious people are earning their money working behind the scenes on this. I can't say I was unhappy with the news that Biden sent another pile of drones over, but that's tempered by the lack of clarity on what's actually going on.

Just said to hubby I wish Putin would drop dead. He agreed. There’s something that doesn’t happen everyday.

It’s surreal, it’s crazy. It’s murder

^Absolutely. Here's the UN just now:

Quote:
GENEVA — The United Nations on Friday detailed a “horror story” of possible war crimes and abuses unfolding in Ukraine, citing indiscriminate shelling, hundreds of summary executions and the widespread devastation of civilian lives.

“International humanitarian law has not merely been ignored but seemingly tossed aside,” Michelle Bachelet, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, said in a statement.

She called the strike on the train station in Kramatorsk, which killed more than 50 civilians and injured scores, “emblematic of Russian forces’ indiscriminate bombardment of civilian targets” that may amount to war crimes.

“Our work to date has detailed a horror story of violations perpetrated against civilians,” she said in the statement.

While Ukrainian forces have committed abuses, including ill-treatment or torture of prisoners of war, “the vast majority” of alleged abuses were attributed to Russian armed forces, Ravina Shamdasani, a spokeswoman for the U.N. human rights office, told a news briefing in Geneva.

And beyond the death and destruction, what about the disrupted lives?

Some fantastic work being done to counter the vile, delusional psychopath:

Quote:
A group of Ukrainian orphans - extracted from a war zone by a Scottish charity started by football fans - have finally settled into their new home.

The group of 52 children and their guardians made headlines when the Dnipro Kids charity fought red tape to bring them to safety in Scotland.

After a month of rest and recovery in Callander near Stirling, they are now living in Edinburgh.

Some of the older children have been speaking about their new lives.

Rita, 17, thinks Scotland is "beautiful".

She said: "It's very pretty. I like it very much and the place we stay in is very different from what we have in Ukraine. So far we like everything. I like it here."

But there is still a lingering sadness for what has been left behind.

"On one side I am so very sad for so many friends I left in Ukraine, but I have met some good friends here in Scotland already. It's cool."

Sasha, 16, explained that the journey from Dnipro to Poland and then on to Scotland was "difficult, long and uncomfortable".

Further steps materialising:

E.U. Nears Ban on Russian Oil, as West’s Resolve Grows

An oil embargo, expected to be difficult and costly to Europe, was considered unlikely when the war began. But positions have hardened, and NATO countries are sending more weapons to Ukraine and more troops to its neighbors.

Reading different reports, this could get seriously ugly. I mean, it's already ugly but there's speculation Putin could go all in and start WWIII by going nuclear

And so the death and destruction continues.

The hope is that Russia is at least losing the long game. The screw does seem to keep tightening, with more EU announcements today.

Frustratingly, it's hard to say much else.

Zaporizhzhia: Russian President Vladimir Putin could formally declare war on Ukraine on May 9, US officials have warned, as Russia moves to annex large swaths of eastern Ukraine.

May 9 is known as Russia’s Victory Day. As Putin’s long-term Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov doubled down on the claim that the invasion was a “special operation” aimed at “de-nazifying” Ukraine, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said on Monday there was “good reason to believe that the Russians will do everything they can to use” May 9 to justify the war.

Here's hoping not.

Just saw a headline reporting that moonbat Putin reckons he was 'provoked'.

Sure thing, Vlad. In the same way the mafia are 'provoked' when you don't pay them protection money.

Tomorrow is the big celebration day in Russia isn't it? Victory over the Nazis in WWII?

This could be "interesting"

That's today – it's currently mid-afternoon over in Moscow. No sign of any imminent escalation that I can see:

Yeah, what some were anticipating didn't happen. Very little in the way of escalation talk, I have no read on what that means.

Laughing

C'mon, be fair, Bush was never the sharpest tool in the shed, plus he's got to be losing it with old age. He must be nearly as old as Biden. Razz

Anyway, this is an interesting read. Russia is looking like Sisyphus, but getting weaker. https://www.theage.com.au/world/europe/why-zelensky-could-defeat-putin-by-the-end-of-the-year-20220519-p5aml2.html

So is it really nearly over? With Russia the loser? What will be his final move?
