Didn't we look at Ben Brown last year? What happened?

Collingwood are miles off.

Somebody. Anybody. Tell me - how the f%cking f$ck did we beat this team only a few months ago?!
I mean what the actual f&ck?!

Exactly.
I think in the current competition, it is not miles. In the metric system, it is centimetres.
We were the only team not to lose to them.
It means that there is not miles the difference, but centimetres.
Not saying we will bridge the gap next year.
But we're not as far as some might think.

It is called: salary cap debacle.

Peter Jackson made a massive contribution in turning the club around. They brought in Roos and now Goodwin. They play unselfishly and for each other. That is the lesson. Actually, I can see some promising signs in the club but it will take time. No shortcuts though. Let’s win one or more before 2030

You'd have to say we missed on both him and/or Peter Wright due to the salary cap debacle; most simple explanation I'd suggest.

Yes, that is a huge issue. But we have talls waiting in the wings. We are not in the market for ensnaring some super power key forward, because we are not yet in contention for a flag. Therefore, we will need to start developing our own forward structure and talent. Can happen in a year or two. Just like Bailey Fritsch appeared on the scene several years ago, and now ends up kicking 6 goals in a GF.

Interesting that they had 2 of the best development coaches in the AFL
Chocco Williams and Alan Richardson.

So you think BB is the difference between 17th and winning a flag?

And to think - Melbourne traded the pick to GWS, that netted Josh Kelly, in exchange for Thomas Bugg.

Imagine Melbourne with Josh Kelly; yikes...

Three words: FRONT. AND. CENTRE.

Luckily McRae, unlike that plonker Buckley, understands what this means.

How fickle it is to say how good is Melbourne is and how bad are we!.

Melbourne were fantastic, and deserve all the accolades. It started with Petracca, Gawn, Lever, May, Brayshaw .. found a goal kicker in Fritsch .. hit the jackpot with Oliver ,and Brayshaw did his thing. Salem is a young gun, Jackson fell out of a tree, and Ben Brown was a missing link. Langdon slotted in nicely. The rest well drilled.

Melbourne failed dismally and started from ground zero and toiled over many years to build that side, and many seasons growing together.

Seems we have already started on the same path.

Watching Perracca, I was thinking who's our Petracca ? Its Degoy.

We have Moore, Grundy, IQ, Adams, Crisp, Degoey, Maynard and N Daicos and a dozen young guns all under 20.

The pieces to come will have a good core of players around them.

Tonight's game was fantastic, Melbourne's forwards looked for space while Dogs backs guarded space. When Melbourne controlled the footy, they easily found open space or loose forwards.

Tonight will give FLY food for thought. Controlled from the midfield. Man on man in the backline. Forwards fan out and open up the whole forward arc.

Loved this GF, a classic. Rapt for Melbourne's long-suffering supporters.

Right now our superstars in Moore De Goey and Maynard are 25 years old

The next generation of stars N Daicos Hunt McInnes Macrea etc are 18 to 19 years old, with a few around 22 Quaynor J Daicos T Brown

We can't let the first group blow out past 29 years of age before we fill that hole between 19 and 25 or the group as a whole is not in it's prime when you are contending

You need to get a sizable portion of your team between 23 and 29 to really be in the window

Yep...we should be aiming to challenge in 2023, with only a possible slack of 1 year. It is possible though. Depends on
a) the quality of our youth coming through
b) the ability of the coaching regime to establish the team solidarity.

Brave coaching gets rewarded.

3 goals down in the 3rd and Goodwin take the AA ruckman out of the middle.

Jackson goes in and becomes influential.

Ballsy.

It's obviously a whole heap of factors, but this is a great call. Not just cookie cutter line-ups and fear of changing things around. Being bold in the tightest of situations takes some doing and trust.
