Quote: | The closure of lunchrooms was significant in a hazardous industry while the mandatory vaccination order did not account for the bubbling tension within the sector.
For some workers, it fed an ever-present sense of victimhood. For others, it pointed to the CFMEU’s lack of influence and input under a leader isolated from much of the labour movement.
Then on Monday came the trigger. Workers hated a proposal pushed by the union for no rest breaks and workers being paid eight hours for six hours’ work. Most construction contractors rejected the push as well.
People walked off their city building sites in their hundreds.
Senior CFMEU figures say far-right activists and anti-vaxxers exploited the situation, but it was wrong to say, as Mr Setka did on Tuesday, that there was “a small minority of construction workers” at Monday’s melee who had quickly walked away because of the violence of “professional protesters”.
Senior figures estimated that about 80 to 90 per cent of the protesters were construction workers. Others said they knew many of the people at Monday’s rally as union delegates and members. Not all were opposed to vaccinations or were right-wing. Some were annoyed at the union caving in on safety and workers’ rights. |

Thanks for posting. Most people seem to think it’s all about the vaccine. 6 hours with no break is dangerous. They absolutely should have tea rooms, we built a setup last year for a massive warehouse with a lot of it outside and everyone was happy. It wasn’t cheap. |
It's about the vaccine.
Lunch room issue, masks, lockdown and other measures everyone else is following also bother them to a lesser degree, but mainly it's the mandated vaccine. Many tradies are anti-vaxx and of the qanon persuasion so it's a conspiracy and/or erosion of freedoms |
on our site they are all vaccinated, and now we have to lock them out thanks to these fuckheads. 1 more damn week thats all we needed!
such precious $$%^%%$ petals, think of what doctors and nurses are going though, long hours, the ppe is cutting into their skin, the stress of watching people struggle to breathe,
my sister is a cop, we have our differences but shes been working crazy $$%^%%$ hours, she in the anti demo planning team, i dont even know if she got to go home last night.
for (mates with) sake people we all survived the polio vaccine. just get the jab! you now have 3 choices, so damn well do it - or stay home and shut the **** up, because its not all about you. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

I have a nephew who is a cop and was working on the weekend at protests in Richmond.
Was hit on the head by a projectile thrown by a protestor, lucky for him he has a hard head and no damage. _________________ If you are foolish enough to be contented, don't show it, but just grumble with the rest. - Jerome K Jerome |

Yeah, government reckons the protest organisers are using the footage to track the Cops and move in different directions. Late concession is that they can still fly but 1 hr delay on broadcasting, Channels 7 and 9 taking it to court. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Might be a new contender for the dumbest thing the Victorian Government has said in 2021. |

Hopefully they all are, my sis went home at 8.15pm, started at 5.30, she will be back again at 5.30am. Who would be a cop? _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Yeah, I'd go through her like a dose of Epsom Salts, some of these young big units........she'd have no chance. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

That’s what guns are for!
Seriously that’s what worries me, she’s 3 inches shorter than me, and a good 12 kg lighter, but she’s tough as nails! She’s been in the force for 25 years so she’s not front line fodder thankfully! But she was in the car all day with the guy who was in control today - and what a fine job they did! Still the way those ‘peaceful ‘ protesters went at the cop cars, it worries me.
Oh and did everyone seethe mrs doubt fire 70 year old that got knocked over? How disgusting! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Nothing jumps out at me except at least 3 of them seem to be left handed and the women aren't in uniform. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
