I lament our lack of KPP as much as anyone, so I went back to the list to check our height and was somewhat pleasantly surprised at the height of some of our younger and mainly unseen players.
Defenders
Keane 194cm
Wilson 194cm
Tohill 200cm
(Roughead and Moore, both 200cm)
Ruck/Forward
Cameron 204cm
Lynch 200cm
Begg 197cm
(Grundy 200cm, Cox 210cm)
Forward
Kelly 194cm
McMahon 197cm
Johnson 193cm
(Mihocek 192cm)
We also have Ruscoe, Poulter and McInnes all 193cm
Johnson and Begg were picked up in the midseason draft, McMahon in last years national draft. Did any of them play any VFL this messed up year?
So the cupboard isn't as bereft of numbers as I had thought, whether there's much in the way of quality remains to be seen. I'd still like to get some more athletic 197cm+ kids who could make KPP. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Yeah, but none of them apart from Wilson played yesterday. That's why we looked so bad lining up against Essendon. And interestingly one of those who looked good yesterday was Wilson. If you're up against some guy who's 195cm and 95 kilo who need comparable height and weight in your team to counter it. Sending kids like Bianco and Rantall up against those guys yesterday was lambs to the slaughter. |

There are midfielders at 192-193cm, so like stated we need more quality at 197cm+ and not just out of the rookie draft. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |

Yeah, Wilson has started to show some signs. Essendon picked with their first 3 picks kids all 200cm last year and all high picks. We need to work our talls over pre season and inject more height into the team provided they have the mobility. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

McMahon played about six VFL games and didn’t show a lot but the kid is still very raw and young. It’s also a bit of a lottery when your spotters couldn’t see him play the year before. McMahons supposed strengths are his marking, athleticism and he’s usually reliable in front of goals. He might yet be a superstar but you wouldnt see it for at least another two years, anyway.
Begg is another one who has played around eight competitive games in the last two years, so how can you judge them now. We also need to remember Begg was virtually our free hit for a tall in the upcoming draft because he would have been selected somewhere in that draft.
Some players can be 192 but play tall. Johnson fits that mould and Henry plays tall too.
I posted elsewhere if you don’t invest in a KPF inside the first 10 picks of the draft, then history shows you’re unlikely to pluck a 10 year key forward anytime afterwards.
They are such unique specialised animals, so they are hard to come by and very much in demand whenever they are on offer. |
