Allen Aylett (North Melbourne identity)
Percy Beames (Melbourne identity and Journalist)
Bob Davis (Geelong identity)
Gerard Healy (Melbourne and Sydney identity and media)
Jack Irving (Former umpire)
Bill Jacobs (commentator/media identity)
David Parkin (Carlton/Hawthorn/Fitzroy identity)
Greg Hobbs (Journalist/Media identity).
A few know Collingwood-haters in there.
Imagine the uproar if the panel included Lou Richards, Eddie McGuire or Bob Rose.... And we had a player included.

And you can't deny that journos are not biased in any way. It is impossible. Let's look at Mike Sheahan for example. He does a top 50 of all time and does not include Peter Daicos.... why?? Because of personal reasons. It's true.
As if Daics isn't in the top 50 of all time? FFS. But of course the AFL print it like its some kind of official list.

Beams and Irving were from the Coventry, Collier, Regan era, they should have known far better. And that Hobbs bastard, despised the Magpies, many yrs ago, iread an article by that turd, saying how rapt he was too see a young Magpie fan crying after we lost to his mob, the Dons, saiid it made the win even better. Total asshole, no wonder we ddint get a single player in, and dickhead Healy has hated us for yrs so no bloody wonder.

If you wanted to know why Healy was a dickhead you only had to meet his parents. And yes its personal. His Mum was a prize mutton dressed as lamb who knew everything. Family of wannabees from Aspindale which tarnishes the memory of Johnny Famechon.
Percy Beames was the one who convinced the others that Regan was not that good. I still applaud that Geelong bloke who cleaned up SOS.

that's right and it's pathetic a team that won 13 premierships till 1958 didn't have someone in the Team of the Century.
I remember saying at the time that imagine if they picked Team of the Century working backwards from 1996 to 1897 and how many Collingwood players they would pick with 13 premierships in 61 years?

Perhaps they should have done 4 teams, one for each set of the 25 years that had passed.
I've always felt that one team with so many subjective decisions was silly.
Lets face it; journos have not much more idea than the average punter and have all shown signs of bias. Many of them write things that are incorrect and are not held accountable. They are just agenda driven opinions most of the time. And not one journo has ever admitted to being wrong but will gloat about getting something right. So what gives them the right to decide on any award? Wether it be a Norm Smith or an All-Australian team... and especially a Team of the Century.
The real selection panel should have looked like this:
Ron Barassi
Leigh Matthews
John Kennedy
Ted Whitten
Tom Hafey
Fos Williams
David Parkin
Allan Jeans
Bob Rose
Bob Skilton
Dick Reynolds
Polly Farmer
Kevin Bartlett
Haydn Bunton Jr.
Blight, Sheedy and Malthouse were in the middle of their coaching careers, but may have also been included.
From there, they all put a team forward and then write down the names with how many selections. You'd soon get a feel about who would be in the team. From that point a discussion about allowing any current player would need to happen. Then the AFL would have to approve the team, with the team going to every single club to give clubs a chance to put a case forward for any player missing.
Then the argument would begin. But you'd probably find that out of 22 positions that up to 18 would be locked in with the final 4 spots the nightmare to fill.
