From NSW Health twitter:

Quote:
NSW recorded 787 new locally acquired cases of #COVID19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

One new case was acquired overseas, and 10 previously reported cases have been excluded following further investigation. The total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is 59,520.

Sadly, NSW Health is today reporting the deaths of 12 people with COVID-19 – six men and six women.

Four people were in their 60s, two people were in their 70s, four people were in their 80s, and two people were in their 90s.

....

There have been 309 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since 16 June 2021 and 365 in total since the start of the pandemic.

There have been 53,865 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

There are currently 1,155 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 214 people in intensive care, 115 of whom require ventilation.

From the ABC blog:

Quote:
We're hearing from Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews now
He said 23 per cent of yesterday's cases are in their 20s, and that there are 363 people in hospital. Seventy-five of those are in the ICU and 56 are on ventilators.

From The Age's blog:

Quote:
A breakdown of Victoria’s 705 new cases of COVID-19
By Cassandra Morgan

Victoria’s COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimer has just provided a breakdown of the state’s 705 new cases.

Here’s what he had to say:

There are 412 new cases in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, including 210 in Hume, and some in other areas including Craigieburn, Roxburgh Park, Meadow Heights, and Epping;
A total of 165 new cases are in the western suburbs, including 165 in Point Cook, and others in Tarneit and Truganina;
There are 84 cases are in the south-east suburbs, including in Pakenham, Dandenong, and Hampton Park;
Thirty two are in the east, including in Boronia and Camberwell; and
Twelve are in regional Victoria, including four in the Macedon Ranges (all household contacts), two in the Mitchell Shire (one household primary close contact, one not), two in Geelong (close contacts), one in the Baw Baw Shire and one in Ballarat.

That, by the way, was the lowest reported number of new cases in NSW since 24 August.

It'll be a bittersweet moment when the Victorian daily case numbers pass New South Wales', that's for sure.

At least we can say now that NSW has it under control. They've turned the curve and numbers are going down.

You'd expect that Victoria will take longer yet, impacts of the protests are unknown at this stage.

It will also be interesting to see what happens to the case numbers in NSW as they release some restrictions. Logic suggests they would have to go back up again, they'll be the guinea pig for the country.

Yes vaccines work, clearly. The evidence is in the NSW numbers, huge case numbers (by Australian standards) but low death numbers compared to Vic last year.

Your Doctor may be right, or may not. Time will tell.

Yep, likely but it's time. We just have to get on with it. Accept that COVID is a part of life and live with it.

You've had families separated for far too long. Businesses closed for far too long. People not being able to say goodbye to those they have lost and people not being able to say hello to those that have arrived.

Which was yesterday as Victoria suddenly found another 140 cases to add to yesterday’s tally…
