What about playing Lynch as first ruck and playing Grundy as a ruck rover? I think it is worth a shot to have a massive presence in the centre square. Then we play Grundy a bit up forward and around the ground and also doing some ruck work. Worth a shot. _________________ Daicos, impossible angle ... Goal! |

I agree. Can’t believe Harvey hasn’t at least trialled a couple of centre squares with an alternative ruckman (e.g. Cox) and Grundy as a ruck rover. Like seriously, try SOMETHING. He clearly thinks he’s a midfielder, so let him try to be one with his huge frame and appetitive for the contest when the pill is live after a ball up in the middle. You never know. _________________ Est. 2002 |

It's desperate times, so maybe they have to try a hail mary.
This is like the stages of grief... Many folks are stuck in the denial stage.

I'm sorry but $1Mpa and $800kpa players are being paid elite money, and we should expect elite performance. They should lead the way.
DeGoey is a Lazy footballer, that chooses when to put in. Some of his defensive chases were pathetic. Elite? Far from it. Has patches. But another Jake Stringer. He leaves me more often disappointed, than excited.
Grundy try's and was very good tonight. Elite? No. |

Do you mean out of the side, or traded out of the club? His contract makes the latter a problem. It also makes it very hard psychologically for any coach to consider dropping him.

How Many turnovers. |
Dunno yet how many for this match... But the number of his turnovers leading to oppo scoring shots is one of the worst at Collingwood. I've seen the chart. (And of course it should not be. The rest are dominated by defenders. As you'd expect.) I'll post details in the Grundy thread when I can. |

Seem to remember someone saying port by +40 was easy money... Skids??

You know that's impossible due to the salary cap, right?

We got killed by another goalless quarter. Hardly going to win games when you score in only three quarters.
Umpiring was shite. I don't blame umpiring but last night was a shitfest. And that't the Roden decision which I thought was fair enough. He called touched but did go the video umpire.
We need a new ruck coach. Grundy's centre square ruck work is getting worse and worse. As I said in the game thread, he is an orchid in the centre circle and struggles with anything other than a perfect bounce. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

Our Goalless quarter wasn’t for lack of trying or opportunity though. Mihocek missed three he’d normally get, and KDG was taken high 30m from goal in the final minute. We should’ve snagged 2-4 goals. I know we didn’t, but the coach can’t kick them or blow the umpire’s whistle. _________________ Est. 2002 |

I am sorry to say that whilst Grundy works hard, he rarely has any significant impact. The suggestion that he could be a ruck rover in the old terminology, is absurd. The number of touches he has outside of the ruck tap are generally of little value. He grabs the ball and just kicks, generally in hope. His ability to hand pass accurately is below par and has no ability to take a contested mark. He rarely presents himself as a target for players upfield. To suggest that he has the leg speed and skills to run, carry and create opportunities is, well!! _________________ Believer |

They should give Lynch the opportunity to develop his ruckwork. There will never be a better opportunity. Grundy should be rested and brought out out for the next campaign. There is no merit at all in letting our best player get banged up in nothing games. |

And yet we have this from last Tuesday: masoncox wrote: | I cannot forget Clark Keating of the Lions.
Smashed the ball forward against us in the GF
This is what they said about him
Known by some as the "September Specialist", Keating's history of shoulder injuries sidelined him during the 2002 and 2003 seasons, but he went on and played magnificent finals series to taste premiership success with the Lions 3 times in a row. Had a superb performance in the ruck in the 2002 Grand Final with a career best 39 hitouts. |

Agree with this entirely, and contrast with the way we went about it in the Cats game, its a 100% improvement |
