Do they need to be joint Copeland winners to get the Miyagi seal of approval - because some people already think they're in our best handful of players this year - see, eg: https://www.magpies.net/nick/bb/viewtopic.php?t=89014

Nah just win games and do the one percenters!

If I were Bucks, I’d drop the players who don’t want to play for him, and only play those who do. We’d field a full team, just minus a millionaire

Yeah but then have Tom Morris spewing absolute shit. And Sam Maclure said on a few weeks ago Buckley had been offered a new contract. It's not worth your energy imo.

Those 2 are the worst wannabees in football. Especially Sam McClure, cannot stand the smart-arse. Has an opinion on everything and spewing out stories with no factual background.

Morris is only slightly better.

Agree Ronnie. How does MM know with such certainty?? He has already admitted himself that he believes Roughie was disenchanted with Buckley's coaching. Yet now he says it is only Brodie Grundy. I am amazed at MM's detailed knowledge of the inner mindset of our team. Not sure how he gleans his info, unless it is telepathy??

Well it appears it wont be a big time coach like Clarkson then.

Lyon's a has-been dont want him either.

I don't see the point in ditching Buckley for another untried coach.

Bucks started as an untried coach as nearly all the current coaches except Ratten are at the clubs where they started.

I’d say it’s the ideal time to go with a young untried coach given the list needs at least 3 years to develop into a serious contender.

This. We need to be bold. we need to assemble an expert selection panel and find the treasure that is surely sitting there among all the assistant coaches in the AFL.

Magpietothemax,

I’m hurting for Buckley. I really wanted him to do well for us. It’s a massive shame but this shouldn’t cloud my logical thinking.

Oh right. Was it all this love for Bucks and same logical thinking that caused you to constantly call Bucks by the derogatory term of FIGJAM ???

Two premierships in sixty years, I don't understand why anyone would put it that way.

Why not 2 in 31 years, or 3 in 63 years, or 15 in 119 years?

Hang on, just a minute, "What's that?"...

Oh it suits their argument. Rolling Eyes

Hang on, "What's that?", oh you want coaches that have been successful, at other clubs.

Tom Hafey? Nah.

John Cahill? Nah.

"Who's shouting back there?", "What is it?", "Jock?", "Jock McHale". "Jock will you keep quiet, you've only ever known Collingwood", I'm trying to make an argument here...

So you have to go back 70-80 years to say it works, yeah, maybe, just maybe, things have changed a little bit in that time.

Matthews- Wins a premiership after a highly decorated and successful playing career well away from Collingwood
Shaw- Collingwood legend, proves to be a dud.
Malthouse- Wins a premiership coming from a successful coaching and playing career a long way from Collingwood
Buckley- Collingwood legend, is a dud coach.

Why anyone would be shocked that we picked a coach who knew nothing outside Collingwood would prove to be a failure.

1958 is the last time a Collingwood player led the club to a premiership, a lot has changed in that time. Dennis Pagan is the last coach to actually coach the club he played most of his career for to a premiership as a coach.

Most recent premiership coaches have had success as players and as assistant coaches under different systems.

Buckley knew Collingwood and Collingwood...
