Quote:
COLLINGWOOD captain Nathan Buckley is expected to announce his retirement by tomorrow night, having tweaked his troublesome hamstring in the preliminary final against Geelong.

Quote:
Buckley finished the preliminary final on the bench, which surprised many , given that the game was in the balance, with the Magpies trailing only by five points.

It is understood the sore hamstring was the reason Buckley was not on the field in those frenetic final moments, as Collingwood surged late and was on the verge of pinching an unlikely victory.

The latest hamstring tweak is one of a series Buckley has suffered in the course of a frustrating 2007, but is not thought to be a serious consideration in his anticipated retirement.

The setback would have almost certainly deprived him of a grand final appearance — and perhaps the premiership he has been denied in his extraordinary career — had the Magpies won.

I'm slowly coming to accept these rumors as fact. I will be in mourning for a very long time.

This will be a very bitter pill to swallow. Along with Eddie he is the best thing to happen to the club since 1990.

well, maybe if we had have beat geelong, we would have gone in with no bux, possibly no fraser and a very doubtful rocca - still would have whipped the stench though

It is interesting whether not renewing Adrian Fletcher's contract has anything to do with a coaching position for Buckley. However, I have a feeling Clement will take a coaching position on as well.
I think he has one more year, I hope he stays for one more year!

Bucks will annouce his retirement. I'm shattered, at least we can say we saw the king play. Words cannot describe what the great man has done for this club. It will be a tough night on Friday.
