I actually think that you cannot generalise about hand balling backwards because at times this can be the best option to switch play or to change the angle of attack. However I do get what you mean, Collingwood use this far too often and it becomes predictable. They need to play aggressively, take risks and play what I call helter skelter footy taking the game on. Nothing to lose doing this and who knows, if you believe in the laws of probability, the Snow bunnies may be due for a loss. This is our grand final this season. _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. From the SCG thread:

Is our dogs breakfast game plan [strangle-ball] better suited to SCG in this instance, as opposed to attempting a shoot-out, or even keeping pace with Dreamons on the MCG? |
I don't think so.
We kicked 1 goal after QT against Sydney a few weeks back. |
Yes mate - I remember... BUT... has the coach learned from it?
Would you prefer a free-flowing shoot out with this team?
We simply cannot go with them at speed, nor can most other sides either.
I expect a repeat of the 2020 scoreline, but a more accountable effort, which the boys generally produce most weeks.
Survive this onslaught with minimal damage, and reload for second half of season methinks. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Agree. Mihocek is perfect as the 3rd tall.
I think Cox is finished, but our inability to recruit a proper key forward in the past five years has been galling. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

I think you're right, Dyso.
We'll play it safe and aim to reduce any deficit. We've done it against weaker opposition, so I don't expect it to be any different this time. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

Now that Grundy and Adams are ruled out, we'll be sweating on the fitness of Sier. I'm fairly sure that Cox and McCreery will both be passed to play.
If that's the case, these would be my changes:
Out: Lynch. In: Cox.
Out: Rantall. In: McCreery.
Out: Madgen. In: Kelly/Keane.
Sub: Cal Brown.
If Sier doesn't get up, then Cal Brown starts and Mayne is the sub.
Would live to see Ash Johnson get called up, but I think he'll come in via the VFL. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Good. Dunno why everyone's so keen to rush back injured players. Wins and losses don't matter at this stage. |

It'll be interesting to watch Gawn. (Ditto Ryder when we play St K.)
Just to see what he does, how many hit out clangers he has, etc. (Hit out clangers of course do not show up in the caveman stats CD provides.) |
I think Gawn is a lot like Grundy....not a great tap ruckman but brilliant around the ground and can bob up and kick goals.
Contrast that with Nic Nat, brilliant tap ruckman but not much else. Funny isn't it. Now that age and injury history seems to be catching up with Nic Nat it seems to be really exposing how much West Coast depend on his tap work. For so long we have bemoaned if only Grundy was better at tap work...but then your midfeild becomes reliant on silver service every time. So much so that West Coast have lost the one dominant they once had. |
I think they are very different around the ground. Gawn takes marks and plays tall. Grundy is about ground ball gets. He plays small. |

Can't see Cox ever playing for the pies again. Cameron has bypassed him.
Better mark, better kick and understands the game. _________________ Jatsad - That is all |

I really hope that we will introduce Ash Johnson into the AFL via the seconds. He can get a good grounding there and play seniors only when the club feels that he is ready for the big dance. Absolutely no reason for any rush. _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. You may be right but I hope Collingwood don’t give him away for a 4th rounder or something stupid like that. I’m still mightily scarred after the bullshit shenanigans of recent times regarding delistings.😰😓 _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. The last games we lost by more than 6 goals were:
2020 SF vs Geelong 32-100
2020 R12 vs Melbourne 44-100
The latter was at the Gabba so "not in front of their snowbound MCC fans" _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/ |

Your quotes on recent pre-/post-game threads:
Crows
“First interstate win for 2021? And our last too”
“They have double our wins after being wooden spooners last year”
Port
“Port by 60+”
“this could get very ugly. I'm expecting the flood gates to open... yeah 10+ goals to Port”
Swans
“It's not looking good, I expect the flood gates to open soon”
“And I'm not even considering Buddy, if he fires in any way whatsoever... we're going to get spanked”
“I actually think we'll lose this game pretty badly after staying with them in the 1st 1/4. I'm expecting us to lose by just over 6 goals”
North
“Any other side would have beaten us tonight”
Pretty sure you said the same or worse about Geelong but can't be bothered finding it
Suggestion: next time post EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE of what you think... it will be a refreshing break for the rest of us and who knows - you might actually be right for once! _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/ |
