Except Keeffe is 32. Maybe as a rookie selection, but even then, would he be a wise choice? He would only be an emergency backup (We have Madgen).
McStay is 27 and a far better player than Keeffe. The win is that no trade is required and he is a tall KPP which we are in need of. The worry is the size of the contract that is reported to be on offer.
If McStay had a 3, or even 4, year deal and the money was not near what was being reported, most people would be up for it.
Amazing to think Keeffe has been in the AFL system for 13 years. Suspension and injury has kept him to 76 games. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Looking back at the origin of this thread:

Victorian, 187cm, 24yo contested ball winning mid that can also kick a goal. Recruited by the Lions with pick 39 in 2015. 54 games experience as of last night. I've heard there's a bit of frustration from his camp. Is he struggling to stay in the Lions lineup? Played for the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup.

Is he someone that could turn it around at a new club? If so, what would the deal cost us? Just an idea. |
Let's look at his year: He played the final 6 games of the season (one as an unused sub). He averages 19 disposals over the other five games and kicked 3 goals.
Not exactly game-changing. Maybe it was wise to stay clear? Will the Lions delist?

Swans tried to trade him last year and couldnt get it done. As a free agent, is he someone that could come over without taking too much out of the cap?
Looking at his 2019 stats, you'd have to say yes. However, a back injury stuffed up his 2020 and he is so far having a quiet 2021.
185cm, 25 years old, South Australian, Inside mid (Swans playing him in a defensive role this year). |
This one was one that many teams wish they'd looked into. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

I'm sending apologies to Ben Keays [Bris/Adel] and Will Brodie [Suns/Freo].
Didn't think either could play at AFL, both would walk straight into our centre square set up at present. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |
