Quarter of the way through the season and no thread??!!
Very interesting time coming up for my Giants. I backed them early @ 100/1 (now 50/1), they sit on top of the National league, 2 wins clear of the World Series favourite (3/1) LA Dodgers, with the Padres in between them in second place.
After 2 more games against Cincinnati, the Giants meet the Dodgers on 7 occasions over a 9 day period.... with a couple of games against Arizona thrown in the middle of the games in SF & LA.
The White Sox lead a tightly bunched top 4 in the American league, with Boston, Oakland & Houston breathing down their necks.
An intriguing few months lay ahead, GO GIANTS. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

And just like that, SF lose three in a row to the Dodgers and slip to 3rd on the ladder.
Need to win the 2 against Arizona now and hopefully win at least 2 of the 4 in LA. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

It's set up for a huge game at Dodger Stadium tomorrow!
SF took game 1 against Arizona (8-0), but had to come from a 2-4 deficit in the 8th to win (5-4) the second game at Chase Field in Pheonix.
LA dropped a game to underdogs Houston in front of a euphoric home crowd of 30,000+ at Minute Maid Park.
SF & LA are tied in 2nd position on the National league table, behind a red hot San Diego (13 wins from their last 15 games). The 4 game series in LA to have a massive bearing shaping the Giants season.
SF in from 100/1 to 30/1 and LA, firm favourite at 3/1 for the World Series. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

LA win 4-3.
Tough one again tomorrow for the Giants. LA $1.50 favourite with Buehler pitching for the home team.
San Diego unexpectedly drop one to the Brewers today. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

And the Giants take the final leg of the series in LA 5-4!
What a strange 7 game series it was! LA taking all 3 games in SF and the Giants taking 3 of the 4 in LA.
The Giants now have 6 games at home against the LA Angels (2) and Cubs (4). _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

Giants regain top spot (National league) after a 6-1 victory over the Angels & the Padres drop their second game in a row, this time against the Cubs 7-2 in Chicago. They hadn't lost 2 in a row since the Giants beat them at the beginning of last month.
I can't understand why the Giants are still at 40/1 for the World Series 10 of our last 19 games are against the Padres... maybe that's a factor? We're 5 - 4 up in the 9 times we've met already. And 3 - 4 down in the 7 matches against the Dodgers thus far. We haven't played the; Mets, Astros, White Sox or Yankees yet I suppose. From what I've seen I think 40's is still way overs though.
Gausman is in career best form, his pitching against LA in his last game was sublime. Hopefully he does pull up ok.
Quote: |
Gausman was dominant to begin Sunday's matchup, as he allowed two hits and no walks while striking out seven in six scoreless innings. However, he fielded a grounder at the end of the sixth inning and appeared to stretch awkwardly during the play. The Giants called his removal precautionary, but it's not yet clear whether the injury will impact his availability for his next start. Gausman tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Cubs on Saturday. |

Giants, Dodgers & Padres all drop games today.
The Giants have a tough few weeks ahead with a 4 game series against a red hot Cubs outfit who have won 8 of their last nine to see them surging to 4th on the National league table.
The Padres have a really big next few weeks, with 7 games against the Mets and 4 more against the Cubs (who've just beaten them twice).
The Dodgers have what should be, a very cushy next few weeks with games against lowly sides; Atlanta (3), Pitsburgh (3), Philadelphia (3), Arizona (3) and Texas (3).
Anything can happen in baseball though... 9 of the 16 favourites lost today. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

My question is whether bookies usually allow early cash out.
It seems fairly random when they do or don't.
Here's the problem: If they don't and my long-shot bet finishes runner up, it's a great bet but I get nothing out of it. If they do, and the odds shorten from (e.g.) $80 to $10, I can cash out and make money, even when they don't go on to win.

My feeling is that it's very hard to win betting on individual games of MLB or NBA. Maybe individual results are too random. |

Yes you can cash out. I can cash out my bet on SF now for 140% of my initial stake.
What you would do in the scenario you give (which I did when I backed Richmond early in 2017 @14/1) is back whoever your pick is playing to win the game.
I had $100 on Richmond at 14/1 about 8 weeks out from the finals.
When they lined up against Adelaide, I put $500 on Adelaide @ $1.80.... I couldn't lose. Sure I could have won $500 more if I'd just stuck with my initial wager but being guaranteed a minimum profit of $300 was a no brainer.
I collected $1500 for a total outlay of $600. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

Had to throw in a multi today, had a nice collect on the horses having lunch with the daughter at the pub yesterday. Last decent feed before my 2 weeks of camp muck starting today.
I've gone; White Sox @ the line (-1.5), Giants, Mets & Royals. Paying $17.50 _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |
