If there was a match to win back any sort of respect. I’d be this one. _________________ Smoking shadows behind the mirrors - Travis Cloke |

Swans are an extremely defensive team so I don't think we're going to see too many goals kicked. Expect a dour game played between two backlines with not too much separating the teams at the end. It's a game we're capable of winning if things go our way. Even with Roughy and Murphy out we still have plenty of options in our back line. The problem as always is working the ball out of the middle and watching the ball rebound from our forward 50. We need a system of bringing the ball to ground in our forward line because we have no marking forwards. Memo to our recruiters in the 2021 draft year (midyear and end of year) - a key tall forward and a nippy small forward capable of grabbing the ball off the ground in one grab and can accurately shoot at goals (please!).

I understand that Roughead and Murphy have been cleared by the AFL to play this week, after they both passed their concussion tests. Howe should come back which will be great, as we'll need a super defensive effort to beat the Swans.
I suspect McCreery might be rested this week, otherwise I'd drop Thomas.
Hopefully, we have Sier as the injury sub.
I'm tipping the Pies by 11 points. |

How many more years do we have to wait for Sier to develop a tank? |

Do we persist with Henry? I don't like dropping young players after only one game back in the side, but I didn't really feel like he contributed much on the weekend. As mentioned in the post-game thread, I'd stick with McCreery, and also Poulter. Howe for Keane would be a fairly straightforward swap, but I think Keane has shown some really good signs in the past couple of weeks and should play if it's possible to fit him in. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Can't see us winning against them away, I mean I know it was a pretty low scoring affair against Melb but they played pretty well. If we put up another last quarter like we did against North they will simply steamroller us. _________________ All Aboard!! Choo Choo!!! |

Big ask to win up there, v the League darlings, the Swanettes. Swans will be angry. on rebound, lost to the Deeeees. If we had Tay, Howe, Jamie in, id give us a reasonable chance, but without them, now maybe Roughie, Keane, going to be big task to win this. I just want us to be competitive, have a go, red hot go, and for our kids to do well. If we could pull this off, itd be one for the season, up there. But, might be a bridge too far for us, at present. It may be an honourable loss again. Swans by about 16 points id say. But, u never know. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Could be a painful game, we will be smashed off the park by 50+.
Swans are a very good side. With serious midfeild depth. We could be in for a belting out of the middle and that for me leans more towards a big loss...who takes Papley? Who has the form to pick him up?
Also, this game is at the SCG, a ground that when we were good we played badly at. Let alone now.
Brace yourself for this one i think....could be all over at half time. _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |

No, ur dead wrong bout the SCG, our record up there is pretty good, had some good wins there, it holds no fears for us i recall. Be a very defensive game from both teams, wont be a big margin at all. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

With Howe coming back this week do we try him forward. Came to the club to play forward and would help straighten us up to move the ball quickly on the small ground.
Moore has gone back, Keane is developing and Roughhead should play as he was cleared of concussion. Defence looks solid with Maynard back playing better, Noble, and IQ. Wilson deserves a chance after 2 great games in the VFL.
They will plan for De Goey, why not throw Howe forward for an aerial threat, with Mihocek and Cameron floating through? We need to be dangerous to make them nervous.
In: Howe (forward), Wilson (mobile defender),
Out: Mayne (becoming a liability and slow), Thomas (kicking not at AFL standard. Cant make the top of the square from 40 metres out.)
I would give McCreeary another week, but if no.....try another kid, Bianco, Ginnivan or Rantall. |

What is with this forum's obsession with playing our star defenders in the forward line? De Goey just kicked six goals, so maybe we should send him to full-back while we're at it.
PS when Dean Bailey did this kind of thing it was called "tanking". _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Howe will return for this match!
Possible in's based on VFL form:
Sier. 2 really good games in a row now. He's the most likely to get a call up I think.
Bianco had 29 disposals, 7 tackles and kicked a goal. I doubt we'll consider him after only one game, but sheesh he was really good.
Macrae and Rantall both had good games in the VFL as well.
Kelly played in defence and was also listed in the bests.
Dont think Cox wont be considered with Cameron playing well. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |
