Here are the official vote tallies, by party, in the Assembly and the Council:

In the Assembly, as I post this, the ALP has 416,520 votes, the Libs 150,285, the Greens 50,043, the Nats 31,802, the No Mandatory Vaccination Party 11,424 and PHONy (Pauline Hanson's One Notion) 8,760.
Proportionally, things are about the same in the Upper House. |

This is one of the biggest,if not the.biggest,thrashings in Australian political history.A lot of it is due to McGowan and Labor’s handling of the pandemic.People in WA obviously approved of how they handled the pandemic.There’s a lesson there for all governments around the world.If you handel crises like this well then you’ll be rewarded by the electorate,Trump probably would have won the election in the US if he had shown some decency and common sense during the pandemic,but apparently that was a bridge too far for him,and he got what he deserved in the end.

No doubting that he did very well in the election.
That’s not what I asked though.
You said he performed well in relation to covid.
I asked you what he actually did.
If you don’t know what he did that’s ok, because I don’t either. |

He played on the "us against them" by keeping borders closed while allowing lots of freedom locally. Lockdowns were short, they managed their hotel quarantine well so they had minimal community cases and impact.
He also went the centrist path, didn't overplay the progressive or union stuff, pitched his party to where most voters are: around the centre. (that's the real centre, not where extremists think centre is)

The best thing he did was to be Premier of the most remote place on the planet when a pandemic from the dirty Eastern states hit & convinced the electorate that he was keeping them safe, much like in the NT. |

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, the governments of Victoria and NSW are both continuing to poll well. The expectation is that Gladys will walk back in in a few months time, and Dan remains well in front of the Victorian Liberals. The Marshall Government in SA is on a small margin but should be OK too.
Bottom line: incumbent state governments are virtually guaranteed reelection in the current climate. The only one where there is any question at all is Tasmania, where despite having coped with Covid better than any other state, Peter Gutwein could well go out. But if that happens it won't be anything to do with Covid, it will be because they've been in for quite a while and people are ready for a change.
