I see Each Way Albo has said he supports Australia Day on January 26th, that must be very disappointing to the minority who probably expected it to change next year.

^I think having Australia Day on the 26th of January does more than anything else to keep Australians talking about closing the gap.

I'm always surprised at the people they pick as Australian of the Year though. I would've thought picking some billionaire entrepreneur would be more aligned with actual Australian values, as opposed to the values we like to pay lip service to.

happy Straya Day, but Public Holidays should not be permitted on Wednesdays and people who whippersnip the naturestrip at 7am on a public holiday should be flogged then crucified face up on a Hills Hoist.

I saw one poll today which combined changing the date and creating an additional day to celebrate indigenous people to make it sound like everyone wants to change the date.

Making one of the current indigenous celebrations a public holiday and making more of it would make more sense.

Changing the date is inevitable, the important thing is to get genuine Indigenous involvement in doing it.

I'm coming round to the concept of amending the constitution to have an Indigenous Voice in Federal Government along with the Uluru Statement, it just depends on the logistics.

The club posted about it today but didn't really weigh in on the date.

All the AFL clubs clearly were putting out the message they want the date changed and refused to acknowledge Australia Day.

Interesting:

https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/afl-clubs-have-made-bold-statements-declaring-australia-day-is-not-a-day-to-celebrate/news-story/22b163a00f9023191c4b49fba72c9fde

Strange when the corporate world and mainstream politics are on such different pages. I'm not particularly surprised by Albanese's position, but wonder if he's a bit out of touch with his own base's sentiment on this.

Each Ways problem is he cannot win the election just playing to his base, he needs to appeal to the majority who don’t want the date changed.

Now what actually happens when he’s in government that’s another thing, especially if he’s relying on the greens to get anything done.

Just change it! Our cricket team is embarrassing enough, I don’t need bloody captain cook shoved down my throat too!

Also, it’s dangerous, tried out the sup board, there is nothing that doesn’t hurt!

^That's my view, too. An incredibly special foundational identity is by definition not subject to popular vote and whim. Foundational Aboriginal identity is national ground truth; i.e., a part of who we all are that will never ever change.

It's time to embrace it in full.

I suggest the very same for the CFC — a permanent board seat.
