Republican House majority confirmed (they've won their 218th seat; Democrats are on 210 with 7 left to call).

Now Kanye West has announced that he's running for president in 2024, most likely as a Republican (he ran as an independent in 2020 and barely made a blip in the vote count anywhere). Hilariously, he asked Trump to be his running mate and it didn't go well:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/donald-trump-dined-with-kanye-west-and-white-nationalist-nick-fuentes-adviser-says/

Provided he doesn't lose interest between now and then, the Republican pre-primary debates next August are going to be hitting new levels of absurdity with Trump, West, DeSantis and God knows who else trading blows.

West has lost what little grip on reality he once had, he's apparently turned white nationalist and anti semetic and had his sneaker range dumped by Adidas.

Biden at least is a decent human being, but should be in a nursing home with a blanket on his knees, not POTUS.

Polls have closed and counting is underway in the Georgia runoff. Based upon the votes that have been counted, so far, and where they're from, the NY Times has identified a Democratic win there as "almost certain" (> 95% probability) and fivethirtyeight is also expecting the Democrat to win, based on reported results, so far.

In other developments, the Trump Organization has been found guilty of tax fraud: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/12/06/nyregion/trump-organization-trial-verdict

Anywhere else, that sort of trial result would end a political career.

It really does make you wonder how Trump has managed to be so untouchable. One suspects anyone else in his position would be seeing jail time by now.

In news that won’t particularly shock anyone, Kyrsten Sinema has left the Democratic Party and become an independent. No idea whether it will have any effect on how she votes, or if she will continue to caucus with the Democrats (as fellow independent senators Bernie Sanders and Angus King do).

We've seen some bad trades in history:
Babe Ruth trades for $100,000 to fund a musical
Fremantle trading Andrew McLead and pick 38 for Chris Groom

Biden has outdone them all with Brittany Griner exchanged for Viktor Bout.

Unless the Republicans have a death wish, they'll probably pick someone other than Trump, now. You aren't really a viable candidate once you are a former President referred by a Congressional Committee to the Department of Justice with a view to consideration of charges for insurrection. Another "presidential first" for Trump, by the way.

It ultimately comes down to whether the rusted-on Republican voters, QAnon crowd etc. are sick of him. None of this stuff will move the needle, I suspect – if anything, it only feeds their persecution complex and makes him more of a martyr in their eyes – but him constantly acting like a colossal self-obsessed clown might, once it dawns on them that he doesn't give a damn about them or the things they care about (and never did).

Trump like the election is a goner. De Santis who’s probably far worse than Trump in many respects is likely to be the front runner for the GOP

Republicans really are the scum of the Earth:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/dec/25/kamala-harris-migrant-buses-christmas-eve-texas

Imagine using human beings as objects in this way, purely to make a political point.

Oh, I have no doubt there are plenty of MAGA-hat-wearing women cheering it on. It’s an ideology of hatred and dehumanisation that’s the problem.

Can’t help but wonder if rusted-on Republican voters ever read stories like this and think, for just a moment: "Are we the baddies?"
