So I am talking disaster start... for me if we are 0-5 Buckley goes during the season. If we drift along as I expect some good wins and respectable losses, we wait till the end of the season.

The only way Buckley survives beyond 2021 for me is a top two Finnish.

What do you all think? At what point would you make a move on the coach? What is an acceptable start and end point for 2021? (Leavening aside an obvious Premership).

Edit: and another question...if Buckley was to be replaced mid year..Who comes in as interim coach?

anybody who makes top four is anyones game. You make the eight you don't trade coaches on any year.
If you drop out of the eight you get two years to rebuild.

I tend to think any catalyst for change will be more a defining moment than a slow downhill trend.
I don’t think the expectations will be that high internally ( given that more than 25% of our list hasn’t played senior footy ) but any 10 goal loss against average opposition would certainly hasten a passing of the baton.
Remain consistently competitive and develop some kids and I would think that would be enough to retain Buckley for one more year ( 2022 )
After that, then all bets are off !

If we make the top 8, Buckley will stay.
A finish between 9th-12th would be touch and go whilst anything lower than 12th would be the end of Bucks tenure.

Not unless the Club has actually taken collective leave of its senses. If there were any serious competition for services, you might think about it, I suppose - but we seem to be in a queue of one.

If the mods are correct about this place running on shoe strings, then it will crash. But I like the optimism

I don't think top 8 is enough.

If we finish 7th or 8th and go out in an elimination final, then I would call time as it would be another year of regression under Buckley.

I think we're finishing 9th-12th this year, and we'll have a new coach for 2022.

Start early: "sack the coach" Wink

Just practicing

Hopefully we have a brilliant year stating off by smacking the dishlickers in round one. Ever since the "village" of Yarraville got all yuppie like and Footscray got rid of the British Bulldog in favour of the French bulldog the Footscray Football Club has gone to the dogs I tell yah.

Agree totally with this prediction. Absolutely the most probable.
I would not retain Buckley for another year unless, literally a miracle occurred (Top 4 finish). With our current side, that would indeed be a miracle and only a coach who does have some ability could achieve that. I would then have to rethink my assessment of his capabilities, and accept that he deserves an extra year. But that ain't gonna happen.

So finishing fourth at the end of the H and As and then not winning a final would mean what ? ( other than finishing fifth or sixth )

I doubt if Buckley will be measured by wins and losses in 2021.
As long as they compete strongly every week and we develop a few kids, I would think that should be enough to get him the gig in 2022.
Having said that, the heat would be right on him in 2022.
