If you've been on Twitter for the last 4 years you've had to put up with a relentless barrage of tweets from Donald Trump. The good side of this is that people have developed thick skins which puts them in good stead to survive Nick's. |

So Twitter doesn’t have an unfollow feature? Yeah, right. _________________ Four legged animals good, two legged animals better |

The issues are this. Someone follows you and attaches posts from Donald Trump's official Twitter account (that won't happen again). The only way to avoid Trump's tweets is to delete the person who follows you. Then you have the official news services like news.com on your twitter account and they are constantly posting Donald Trump's tweets as well. And watching the nightly news services they also quote from the official Twitter account of Donald Trump. The only way of avoiding official posts from Donald Trump's twitter account in the last 4 years would have been by turning off all social media accounts. Unfortunately it took twitter 4 years to understand that the only way of bringing the president to account for breaching and violating the twitter terms and agreements of it's use was to ban him. |

What makes you think it took them 4 years to work that out?
Twitter waited until Trump had no power to do anything about them, specifically in relation to Twitter almost having immunity from liability for defamation. Twitter were cowards trying to avoid risk to their business model. |

I think big tech censorship of the sitting President is disturbing, and shows that these monopolies have too much power.
You know things have been turned upside down when Twitter accounts from the Ayatollah of Iran posting "death to America" or "death to Israel", or the CCP posting content boasting about sterilising Uyghur women or defaming Australia remain unaffected on Twitter.
It's clear Silicon Valley has a liberal bias, and is cracking down on conservative voices. That's a great way to amplify echo chambers. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 |

^ Very concerning, and with Democrats controlling both houses, will be very interesting to see what sort of laws get passed. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

Why would you want Trump to have access to Twitter, while he still plotting a fascist coup?? That is insanity. _________________ Free Julian Assange!!

Correct weight, he’s been warned multiple times to stop inciting violence and peddling lies about the Coronavirus and the election. He hasn’t. He continues. The social media companies not only have a right to stop Trumps incitement but a responsibility. Trump has every right (but is criminally irresponsible) to express his lies and incitement. Whether they are broadcast or not is unrelated to freedom of speech.
Hopefully behind bars he can still express what he wants to express.
We need the social media companies to do the same to Craig Kelly and The member for Manila George Christiansen. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

I see that you are throwing all your conservative free market beliefs out the window. Interesting.
A proper conservative / free market person would say:
(a) Twitter is a private business which, like all private property, can be operated in any way the owners see fit. Twitter has the absolute right to ban or allow and encourage any content it pleases. If you don't like it, you have the right to go elsewhere.
(b) Twitter is not a monopoly, and even if it was, that is perfectly OK because it would have got there via free competition. No government has the right to penalise a company just for being successful.

This is spot on. It’s most likely an attempt to ingratiate themselves with the incoming administration. That doesn’t mean it’s wrong (as WPT says, he was clearly in breach of the TOS and I don’t see any reason why a sitting president should get special privileges; we’d be moderating his posts if he were on Nick’s insulting other members, spreading lies and encouraging violence, for instance, and one expects he’d be red carded in no time!). But I think there are definitely serious questions to ask about the way these particular companies are monopolising public discourse and setting their own capricious boundaries on what can be communicated, and whether it’s time they were broken up or nationalised. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

The interesting thing is that a whole lot of social media type platforms joined together in banning him, including such random apps as Spotify, Shopify and Pinterest.
When he did start to use an alternative to Twitter, the tech companies banned it from their servers.
There is absolutely zero real justification for banning Trump, if he did commit criminal acts with his posts then let the law deal with it. Jezza pointed out how Twitter doesn't censor the CCP or others. This is purely a PR exercise by billionaire chardonnay socialists tech companies once Trump had lost the power to retaliate. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

The only reason Trump got banned from Twitter was because he incited an insurrection that led to the deaths of five people. They didn’t ban him for the fun of it.Free speech comes with certain responsibilities, and one of those is to not cause harm to people with your words and actions. That is exactly what Trump did with his words last week,he caused harm to a great many people. He deserved the ban and everything else that is coming to him. He’s going to be in a world of legal pain after January 20th,and deservedly so. |

Wonderful piece of irony here.
Quote: | Ahead of the Ugandan election, we're hearing reports that Internet service providers are being ordered to block social media and messaging apps.
We strongly condemn internet shutdowns – they are hugely harmful, violate basic human rights and the principles of the #OpenInternet. |
