Gavaskar says a technical flaw has crept into Pujara's game. He was also bowled like that against S. Africa last season. His right shoulder squares up so his bat is coming through facing towards mid-on.

You don't get the reputation as The Wall by being bowled, Fleming adds.

He'll need to work on this problem, Gavaskar says.

It's a very flat pitch. They needed to be wary of that.

Warne: "There's still plenty of demons in this wicket" followed by, "This is not a flat track at all"

Ponting and co. totally disagree. Smile

Maybe Warne's thinking about his own bowling on fifth-day pitches!

Ponting wants Jadeja to be jabbed out and come out next so India can win! Don't worry about broken bones, etc.

"Demons"... Rolling Eyes Has Warne seen any balls misbehave this entire innings?

Yes. Pujara's wicket says it all. The batsman with (arguably) the best defence in World Test cricket missed a ball that jagged off the wicket.

And Ashwin almost runs out Vihari. Shocked

Mindless play by Ashwin. He must know Vihari cannot run with his hamstring injury.

The pitch was not responsible for that. It's a new ball. It's Hazlewood.

But most of all, Pujara has a technical flaw that has crept into his game. See Gavaskar's explanation above.

("Jag off the wicket" is a gross exaggeration. There was some movement, as there should be with a brand new ball. That's not a pitch "demon".)

Flat tracks are an existential threat to cricket. I'm not saying this pitch is now still a batting paradise. But it's late on the fifth day!! The way it was the first three (or four) days was bad for cricket. Don't forget India helped Oz with three insane run outs in their first innings.

Pujara wasn't beaten by swing.

He was undone by a leg cutter which jagged off the wicket. Beat his bat by inches, not millimetres.

He has a clear technical flaw, as Gavaskar explained. The replays showed Gavaskar to be right. This happened against S. Africa too, so the case is closed. He needs to work on it.

There should be some movement with the new ball. It is hard and shiny and has a new seam. Shocked

It's only the FTBs and their supporters who think even a new ball should not move at all.

5/279.

India needs 407 to win.

Probably a bit early to call but India's 2 bats at the crease have scored 20 runs from 116 balls. Have they given up on a win ?

Reminder: Ashwin does have 4 Test tons and 11 fifties.

Nothing in this test has been bad for cricket IMO. It has been a brilliant test that is exciting to watch late on the Fifth day. Excellent test cricket 🏏

If India draw, this will be the second-longest 4th innings at the SCG in history.

That's another sign of how flat this pitch is.

Excitement is not the main worry.

But it's only "exciting" because modern batsmen are incompetent. If they were competent, both sides would have scored 500 in their first innings and it would be a "boring" draw called off half an hour early.

(e.g. after the shortened Day 1, the betting market was betting that Oz would score 465.)

Ponting repeats that he can't believe how well the pitch is playing. Cool
He though after Day 3 that there would be uneven bounce.

Oz have about 35 minutes to take 5 wickets. Sad

......................

Need a wicket every two overs now. Sad

Have I said it before? This is a flat pitch.

......................

Vihari has now faced over 100 balls since his hamstring injury.

Paine drops Vihari off Starc. Shocked

He had to dive for it. It did not stick.

That's his third drop of the day.

Give it a rest, K.

You're getting more boring than Greg Chappell and more predicable than Punter. Very Happy

Ashwin: "From Day 2, the wicket became up & down"

That's not the assessment of a commentator (no matter how famous they were, in their day). But from a player, actually in the game.
