Stumps.

2/166. Labu 67*, Smith 31*.

Good toss to win. The Aussies have played it well.

Sad that Will's not still out there. Sad

1/166 would have been a very good result.

Maybe Green can score a century tomorrow...
(If he gets a bat. Surprised )

I agree that if there aren't at least two centuries by Oz batsmen tomorrow, they have failed.

Your mark 1.0 is pre-ball-tampering and your mark 2.0 is post-ball-tampering, right?

The rot actually set in for him before the ball tampering saga, some time in 2017. Ultimately, I don't think it affected any of the three's batting. Bancroft is on the scrap heap, but so are Renshaw, Harris, Burns, Khawaja, ..., even Kurtis Patterson. It's hard finding openers (or even number 3s).

So much of the future of Oz batting is riding on Puck and Green. It scares me. It's hard to see who else there is. I'd hope Patterson can find his way back, though he did badly in the trial games in England on the Ashes tour.

^^^ Speaking of which... here's Knox:

"Leaving aside Warner’s one-night stands (Shane Watson, Glenn Maxwell and Usman Khawaja), there has otherwise been a constantly frustrated search since his debut in November 2011. Phillip Hughes, Shaun Marsh and Matt Renshaw were all proposed as long-term hopefuls. Hughes had been dropped and was making a case for a recall when he lost his life in 2014. Marsh cycled through the opening spot in his grand tour of the Australian batting order. Renshaw carried the greatest investment of optimism, but lost his way and now plies his trade in the Big Bash League.

Cameron Bancroft’s partnership with Warner ended notoriously, a good kid fallen in with the wrong crowd. Marcus Harris would be considered another candidate except that the selectors appear resolutely determined not to pick him, and he has not done enough to force them to change their minds.

Taken as a whole, it is a decade of decrepitude for a partnership assumed to be the foundation of Test match success. With such a fragile base, it is a wonder that Australia have continued to maintain their high rating. If the marriage experts were to cast an objective eye over this parade, they might note that there is one common factor. Eleven broken marriages to one person: it’s not a proud record. Yet it is clearly not Warner’s fault: he is more Elizabeth Taylor than Henry VIII.

With 7244 runs in 84 appearances, scoring 24 centuries at an average of nearly 50, Warner belongs to the highest rank of Australian openers, along with Matthew Hayden, Bill Lawry, Bill Ponsford and Arthur Morris, which is some achievement given that many thought him a white-ball slogger. It might be argued that Warner, as one side of that wobbly Australian foundation, has contributed more to his team’s success since 2011 than any other player."

Labu for a ton but the big innings will come from Smith. Lock it in. Very Happy

Marnus has run himself out at least twice. No help needed from Smith.

The way Wade and Finch (who were both captaining at the time) reacted makes me wonder if his Oz teammates know Smith bones his batting partners and are sick of it. Usually batsmen manage to keep their anger to the dressing room, don't they??

I'll have much more to say about run outs in a new thread. Stay tuned! (Lovers of S. Waugh duck for cover!)

In his short Test career, Marnus has already been run out three times:
v Pakistan Abu Dhabi 16 Oct 2018
v England Leeds 22 Aug 2019
v New Zealand Melbourne 26 Dec 2019.

(Dates are Test start dates, not the date of the run out.)

He was not batting with FTBS in any of those. FTBS was not even playing in two of those Tests.

What sports do you bet on? I don't know where's best. sportsbet does not look like they have a huge range. I would have bet on the Adelaide Test ending in 3 days after Bumrah the nightwatchmen was dismissed, but they don't have that sort of bet.

bet365 was what I was looking at during my mammoth (insane!) coverage of the WC/Ashes in 2019. I don't know if they have a bigger range of markets.

And presumably overseas markets won't allow bets from Oz.

Okay, here's what sb has for...

Top Aus Runscorer 1st innings:

Marnus 1.53
Smith 2.75
Wade 13.00
Green 31.00
Paine 51.00

Player to Score 50 (1st innings)

Smith 1.25
Wade 2.62
Green 3.20
Paine 4.50
Cummins 6.00

Player D Total Runs
Smith

Over (+69.5) 1.57 Under 2.25
Over (+79.5) 1.88 Under 1.88
Over (+89.5) 2.25 Under 1.57

So that's saying the market's best guess for what Smith will make is 80 runs.

And under Run Scorer Markets:

To score 100 or more runs (1st Inns)

Smith 2.37
Marnus 1.55
Wade 8.00
Green 10.00

I bet on AFL.

Pretty good odds for Smith to get 19 more runs.

2.37 for Smith to get 69 more runs. (See added market above.)

I'm not sure I can tell what are good odds for cricket...

I'm now looking at bet365:

Aus 1st Inns Runs

414.5 Over 1.50 Under 2.50
464.5 Over 1.90 Under 1.90
514.5 Over 2.50 Under 1.50

So that says the market's best guess for Oz's first innings total is 465!

Aus 1st Inns Top Batsman

Marnus 1.50
Smith 2.75
Wade 12.00
Green 29.00
Paine 51.00

Marnus Runs

112.5 Over/Under 1.90

Smith Runs

80.5 Over/Under 1.90

These look very similar to the sb markets and odds.

India bowling well. Wade, Green and Paine all out, cheaply.

Smith in the 90s.

Oz 6/277.
