Certainly faired better up against Brad Hill then Travis Varcoe in the past. Hopefully he does the same against Jayden Short when we play the Tigers. Just needs to stop pushing blokes after they’ve disposed of the ball. He did it a few times last year as well.

On getting his first game I remember him saying something like

"I want to crash some bodies and kick some goals" Brilliant!

I feel this year & some of next year is the creation of the regular 22 we will use for our next tilt at a flag

Cox at 31 may not see the journey to that flag tilt and if that’s so do we put someone in who will be part of the 2024/5 regular 22

I actually believe that McCreery will end up as either an on baller (inside mid..) or as a very hard-nosed back pocket/half back flanker.

He seems to enjoy the bruising aspects of the code.. much to like.

His disposal is of concern amidst admirable tackling qualities.

What body of evidence has led you to this conclusion?
I have always thought of him as a pretty reliable kick - especially for goal.
Must admit, I haven't looked at his handball efficiency.

^ I haven't formed a view, either way, about his disposal. That said, in his career, so far, he's had 95 disposals (55 kicks, 40 handballs in 14 games) and 30 of them have been recorded as "clangers". It was only 2 from 13 in round 1, compared with 28 clangers from 82 disposals last year (just under 35%). It's probably a consequence of where he plays and the role he's given - but there are reasons for inxs88 to raise the concern, I think.

This let's you see how he fared relative to others in the team: https://afltables.com/afl/stats/2021.html#4

What you see is that there are plenty of players whose "clangers" were about 1/5 or 1/4 of their total disposals last year - his was that bit higher. I haven't spent time looking at each of the younger players, specifically - but my impression is that - as you'd expect - the more-established players who understand the pace etc of the game tend to have lower counts. Our reigning B&F winner (Crispy) had about 15% clangers.

When you’re pick 44 in the 2020 draft, you come with plenty of areas to work on.
It would be smart not go the early crow simply because the sample size is small. I have heard on a number of occasions he’s a seriously hard worker in the track, so that alone will hold him in good stead.
So many times young players who appear to be less than perfect users of the footy are struggling more with the lift in tempo rather than the ability to use the ball well ( Bianco is a classic example ) I would be confident McCreery will continue to improve but his real challenge is to improve at a greater rate than his team mates.

A tackling machine, and has some pace on him as well.

I just watched the replay, and I think he has some talent. Low possession player but high impact
