Nah we will draft him alright, it’s just a question on when we trade him.

How many points do we have assuming there is no bid for him before pick 17?
Are we at risk or can we go into deficit?

^ what I was saying in another thread.

IF Reef is nominated before 14 we have to use that pick - a waste of discount.
IF we didnt rate him higher than 14 we could let him go.

IF by some miracle he is NOT nominated before our 16 we would get two kids and look for points for Reef.

Our pick 65 and 70 are worth a combined 129. No other pick is worth anything.

If Reef is selected anywhere from 17 - 20 then we would need between 730pts - 820pts . We could go into deficit next year.

I dont think we are that Lucky and I think he will get called out earlier.

We need to move pick 16 plus first round next year UP inside top 10. We need a second rounder to come back our way also. If that happens we could use both first round picks on kids then points for Reef with less deficit next year but an extra second round pick from this years trade for points for Daicos.

Is he a near-immediate replacement for Stephenson? His best year was his first.

He'll be salivating. Kids that go Rd 1 need to have a bit of an attitude that they believe they are the best. Knowing he will come in to the senior side would be a dream. To be playing alongside Pendles, Grundy, Moore, Howe, DeGoey.

Tom Browne saying tonight that Collingwood are prepared to trade out 14, 16 and our future 1st to get right into the very pointy end of this draft.

That could POTENTIALLY rule McInnes out of the equation unless we trade our 2 x second round futures for 2020 second rounders.
We would then worry about the points for Daicos in another 12 months.

Happy days !

How ironic, they actually liken him to a bigger version of Adam Treloar

the points system in the draft makes it a HELL of a lot more difficult to folllow along as an average punter.
especially with the discount for region/father-son picks, and future draft picks trading.

I dont think they can go into deficit next season otherwise they would be blowing there whole stack on 1 player in the '21 draft to pick up daicos

P.S i tried to do the math on the table here - https://www.afl.com.au/news/202045/your-guide-to-the-draft-live-bidding-system

You can go into deficit so that the points tally deficit is simply deducted from the first pick wherever that falls in the following years draft. There is also a deficit limit. If you exceed that, I think you start getting excluded from the next draft in total or something quite significant.

Once the deficit is calculated, the clubs first pick just slides down the order to a point that matches the revised and reduced points total. It’s not unusual and a few clubs have been impacted by it in this 2020 draft.
The Daicos selection will sort itself out, the options and flexibility to pick him up on draft night are many and varied.
