It is a bit weird.
I wonder if it can be manipulated.
All the northern clubs have a huge territory.
Can't help think about the old recruiting zones.
The one that enabled hawthorn to win multiple flags because it was a biased system.
We got the dead zone.... western district and the Hawks the fast expanding south eastern suburbs.
The rest is history. |

And of course this will be the last season that NGA selections will apply.
The AFL are disbanding the program on the back of the need to reduce costs a cross the board.
It’s probably not a bad idea as some clubs were finding loop holes in the program and manipulating the system. ( there are some stories of particular clubs uprooting the families of elite young talent and moving them all into their own zone for safe keeping )
But in true AFL tradition and in pursuit of keeping everyone equalised, the Suns will retain all of the N T ( as per the geographic map that is mentioned above )
In the AFL, every club is equal, some are just designed to be made more equal than others. |

I hope we can use points to secure this kid & hopefully hang on to our 1st round pick as well.
Picking 2 1st rounders this year & Nick Daicos next year will set us up for many years.
Fingers crossed. |

^^^ He'd have to slide a fair way, or we'd need to trade our first pick up above his selection range for that to happen.
Nice idea, but fairly unlikely I'd imagine. |

I reckon it will be close. Obviously the lower we finish, the more likely we can get a pick in before McInness name is called out. ( possible early compensation picks may yet come into play too )
There will be Combines in each state but the lack of footy will make it difficult to get a handle on the order until the night. Most of the experts still continue to have him as being on track for a pick in low teens.
All good things come to those who wait. |

I agree
Assuming McInness lands outside the top 10 then we could bundle up round 2, 3 & 4 & get really close.
If we drafted in a 3rd or 4th round pick then that would make it a given.
Therefore, if we land 2 1st rounders and elevate Brodie then I'd be happy. |

One of the scenarios that usually occurs is that if the club does set out to gain a pick before McInness ( and I hope they do ) then opposition clubs identify our plans straight away.
In previous years, if you went looking for another second rounder to help shore up our position, clubs generally make you pay overs to achieve that goal. The trade for picks that you want is the one where both clubs have what each other has.
Having said that, with so many clubs laying claims to NGA talent this year, this might be the year where positioning yourself in the draft is easier than previous years. It’s the game within the game. |

Sorry to be pedantic but the thread title is doing my head in.
It's Reef McInnes, not McInnis. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |
