Trade: W.Hoskin-Elliott, T.Phillips, B.Sier, C.Mayne, J.Thomas (release $1.5m)
Must be a nervous queue outside Buck's hotel room. Next... |
I don't have any special knowledge about Keane but Buckley did talk him up as a potential KPF/KPD i9n his post-match press conference. It'd be a bit bizarre if he were to be delisted on the back of that - almost cruel, actually. |
Almost as cruel as “The coach has the full support of the board” |

Didn't Gold coast have interest in the Qlder at the end of 2018? might be worth more than pick 60 is all I'm saying. |
Great if that is the case. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

2013 draft was officially a bust for us.
Pick 6 Shaz
Pick 10 Freeman
Pick 7 Aish we later traded in.
Tom Langdon, Johno Marsh, were late picks.
Could have had after those first two picks. Cripps, Zac Jones, Impy, Matt Crouch, Zac Merritt, Alex Pearce, Barras, Ben Brown, Fantasia, or James Sicily. Ouch! |

Actually, I thought Thomas was one of our best players (not saying much) in our submission to the Cats. |
I want Thomas, Mayne, WHE and Sier to remain at the club. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

Terrible trading in that time.
We also lost Daisy at the end of the 2012 season as well as retiring Jolly, Johnson, Didak and Krakoeur.
Disaster. |

The thing that really annoys me is that these players
1. Lynden Dunn
2. Ben Reid
3. Travis Varcoe
4. Matt Scharenberg
5. Tim Broomhead
All needed to be delisted last year at the very latest.
That is 5 players we could have drafted/traded in last year.
Maybe 1 of these new players might have been a keeper.
But that is one player better than what we have now. |

broomhead and Dunn were on rookie list. And Broomhead was retained so that he could heal from a gruesome injury. Its the right thing to do and it seems to be a thing that AFL does to ensure players get best treatment as they recover. Actually, wasnt Dunn in the same category.
If we gave them big contracts then i'd understand this post. As it stands, it just looks silly.
Varcoe contributed this year. Scharenberg deserved one final shot.
Ried had a year to run didnt he? And he was a Collingwood premiership player. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

You'd think delistings of:
* Wills
* Appleby
Retirement/settlement:
* Beams
* Langdon
would be forthcoming. No trade currency and no longer 2021 Pies relevant. Suspect that:
* Lynch
* Mason
* Phillips
* WHE
* Thomas
all may figure during trade week in some way be it a steak knife giveaway or a meaningful trade. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

And Treloar too apparently. The club is trying to save some future monetary commitments. They have obviously over committed to Treloar and are now trying to withdraw from anything that forces them to pay him big dollars in the near future. What a bloody mess if this is true. I sincerely hope not. _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Keane has just been re-signed to the end of 2022 - see separate thread. It never made any sense for Buckley to talk about him in the way he did unless he was in their plans - in most circumstances, people want to know whether a coach has the full support of the board. No-one was asking about Keane. Buckley brought him up in that presser and spoke about him as if he were viewed as part of the solution. |

Or, he may have said the first thing that came into his head, hoping that he could talk about anything other than the questions that he didn't want to be asked. Sheedy and Malthouse were very good at doing that.
I recall North's former coach, Scott, being interviewed at training and being asked if Majak Daw was going to be selected that evenjng for his first game. He answered at length as to why he was not ready. Two days later someone else pulled out and Daw was selected. Scott was interviewed again before the game and without any hesitation went on about how Daw really deserved his first game and he expected that he would acquit himself well.
I tend to ignore what coaches say unless they are really angry and it is immediately after a game. Sometimes in those times the filters are removed and they say what they think. |
