Rafa was bundled out in straight sets in Rome.

They say he looked very rusty and may be severely undercooked for the French.

Has the draw been made yet?

It's gobsmacking how hard it is to find the info you want from the official websites.

Aha, yes, qualifiers!

I suppose the seedings will be identical to the ATP rankings. What does that mean for match-ups? I assume SFs will be seeds 1v4 and 2v3. Are the QFs like that too, i.e. 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, etc.?

Starts tonight. TV coverage on SBS.

Thiem and Rafa are reported to have hard draws (in the same half), and Djokovic an easy draw (in the other half).

Reports of this make it sound like it's not locked in which seeds are due to clash in the QF or even the SF (i.e. not what I wondered in the post above). I wish they'd say clearly what's luck and what's not. Maybe if they showed the drawing of balls live it'd be clearer.

Anyone know more about this?

Much talk about the weather and the heavy balls.

The players are dressed like it's Antarctica. Not much the TD can do about that (except close the roof and turn the heating up), given the delayed tournament date. But the switch to heavy balls sounds like a major stuff-up. It has played into Djokovic's hands, though Thiem also said he liked the slower balls.

Other commentary:

They were saying there are only three women left with one-handed backhands.

Back on the balls, they said players were reducing the tension of their racquet strings to compensate. This increases power but reduces control. This was during a women's match, so I don't know if they thought the men are also doing this.

Williams is out of the French open she pulled out of her second round match and has given a walkover not sure on the full details but according to some reports she may have a career ending injury more to come. Her sister Venus lost yesterday and is hinting at announcing her retirement in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, criticism of the balls continues. What was Guy Forget thinking? Whether or not the balls are really bad, this feels like the type of clueless decision that a bureacrat with no sports background would make, not a decision by a former top tennis player.

"Wouldn't let a dog chew on" these balls was one of the news quotes.

Commentators say this will be the tournament of the drop shot. I guess if the balls are so slow and heavy, they'll die perfectly for the drop shot.

Petr Korda's son, Sebastian, made it to the 3rd round, playing under the US flag.

He plays Pedro Martinez tonight.
