Thiem rips another glorious backhand winner down the line.

The commentator (still anonymous to me) says it's a very modern backhand finish. The old way was to follow through so you point towards the ball, he says. Now they all flail away with open chest to get maximum speed, he says.

I say this is due to the racquet technology, which has made the game totally foreign.

Thiem's last chance in this set, and he earns two break-back points.

He converts the second.

5 all, second set.

But Thiem is struggling to hold in the next game, which will be over 7 minutes long before it's over.

Thiem takes the second-set tiebreaker and leads 2 sets to none.

But he looks injured and has called for a trainer.

Mary Carillo and Taylor Dent are the commentators.

Makes sense. Previously, Taylor was talking about his father (an Australian tennis player) in an anecdote about John McEnroe (who is Mary's friend and co-winner of a Grand Slam title!).

Taylor does not believe in drop shots. Shocked

Play resumes.

It looked like Thiem was having his ankle worked on. He declined to have it taped up.

The third set starts the same way the second did, with Medvedev breaking Thiem's serve.

The third set continues to be like the second. Thiem breaks back.

Thiem wins the third-set tiebreak and the match in straight sets.

The final will be Thiem vs. Zverev.

Thiem vs Zverev. Will be happy to see either player win it, but considering Thiem has already played in three losing finals, I'd like to see him finally breakthrough.

Whoever wins will be the first current player in their 20s to win a slam tournament, and it will be a first new slam winner since 2014 when Marin Cilic defeated Kei Nishikori at the US Open.

Osaka vs Azarenka. Head says Osaka wins, but heart says Azarenka wins to cap off a great comeback story.

Yep Osaka won in a good match and it was good it went to 2 sets but Osaka had a very good run in the us open and credit also to victoria too getting to the final.

Got Thiem to win in 4 close sets.

French Open is next in 3 weeks time so not a huge time frame between comps.
