Post subject: Delisted Scharenberg linked to other clubs | |

But no word on which clubs. There was talk about a possible trade to the Crows around a year ago, but nothing occurred there.
Quote: | Matt Scharenberg (Collingwood)
“I think once we get through Thursday and clubs know, whether they know list sizes or not, at least they know what is on their list and what has gone off.
“I’ve had a couple of calls on Matt, but nothing concrete. In our opinion he’s too good a player not to be in the AFL system next year, but he’s going to have to wait and see.” |

This is good news for us.
If we aren't going to improve our list, we can hope that the other 17 clubs make their lists worse. If we go backwards slower than the other clubs, we actually go forward. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

It would be good news for us if we got something for him.
Why not hold off delisting him until AFTER trade week??!! _________________ Beware the swooping Magpie. |

There have been quite a few occasions where that has occurred and I have thought the same thing. Because it is so obvious and because other clubs do it too I assumed that there must be a reason for it. Is there something in the rules that anyone can shed light upon that may assist? |

As you mentioned - most clubs do it the monday after their season concludes.
Is it simple list spring cleaning?
Do we have to trim the list prior to the ND?
I think we do, but... didn't we have enough retirements at seasons end for natural attrition to be a sufficient cull this year?
And we are still no wiser on what the list numbers for all 18 teams will be going into 2021, regardless of the VFL situation? _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

It's a shame that we had already publicly announced that we are delisting him. Now we have very little to bargain with as clubs know we are going to let him go anyway.
Should have waited until after trade week before making it public. |

I've also wondered about this, here are my thoughts;
- the pies know he has little to no trade value
- it's probably easier for the player to find a new home as a delisted free agent than via a trade
Expanding on those thoughts,
- The pies apparently shopped him around last year, I suspect they might have made informal enquiries this year. Have they come to the conclusion that a trade won't happen or it would only get a late pick they don't intend to use
- The pies haven't offered Scharenberg a new contract, he knows he won't be on the pies list next year, as does his manager and as does any club his manager is talking to.
Treating players with respect on their way out and smoothing the path for them to find another club should have player morale benefits (particularly if you've already assessed the trade value as negligible) |

He's too slow and one sharp turn away from retirement. Good call by the pies. _________________ Get back on top. |

I agree. We’ve decided we can’t keep him on the list, we tried to get something for him and failed, so why not do the best we can go find him another home. _________________ Four legged animals good, two legged animals better |

It was the right thing to do - let him find a home unencumbered by the small likelihood of a trade.
Something of a modern day Lee Walker tragedy. I really wanted him to do well. |
