Ed Phillips plays for the Saints. Ed Langdon used to play for Freo, but now Melbourne.

Despite the similarities, this is not the president's brother:

I think Peter Wright (a massive Pie fan) would thrive at the Pies.

Yes, of course.

IMO, he lacks skill and, in particular, never does anything special with ball in hand.

I expect him to win the Copeland, too but, IMO, neither he nor Treloar is good enough in their position to help Collingwood win a flag. I consider that they command too much of the ball but do too little with it when they have it and that they are also next to useless defensively when their opponents get the pill in the midfield.

It's just a view. Other people are entitled to a different one.

Hopefully, Adams will suddenly prove me completely wrong and turn into an incisive ball-magnet who cuts the West Coast backline to ribbons, rather than a guy the opposition don't bother tagging because they couldn't care less how much he gets the ball.

Tend to agree with P4S.
he is talking about impact.
Treloar definitively doesn't have it and Adams only sometimes has it.
Treloar needs to be placed on the outside and never ever be an inside mid

Any interest in Brandon Matera?

https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/B/Brandon_Matera.html

His 2019 stats are acceptable (30 goals). But his 2020 stats are not appealing.

175cm, 28yo, Midfielder/Forward. Delisted by Freo yesterday.

EDIT: Just saw Raw Hammer mention Matera on the previous page.

What's a Cat going to do with $50,000?

Geez no wonder I got confused!

My two targets: a mid who can win clearances, and a utility who can kick the ball forward with decisiveness and accuracy. Best of luck!!

Why? I reckon his diction was very clear and impressive for a horse.

We can’t kick goals. Therefore...

Bring in McCarthy (cheap), Ben Brown, Two Metre Peter, and Brandon Matera (cheap).

Whatever we’ve done in the past ten years has barely worked. Might as well go a little crazy and change it all up!

Post subject: September end, October List UpdatesReply with quote

With Ben Reid finally recognising what we all realised three years ago and retiring and being rank outsiders as we travel west, it's time to pivot and see where we sit pre-trade and draft period. So let's take stock and give some perspective to the following:

1. Draft Hand as of September 26th:

Picks 12, 34, 37, 68, 84 and 102

From Derek Hine's comments on Road to the Draft podcast, he aims for us to get stuck into the Draft this year even with a subtle reference to eying off the Bulldog's first pick (13) given the likely bid on their NGA player Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.

2. Trade Bait:

* Tom Phillips: a 24 year old, 600+ possession a year, endurance and durable player shall have interested parties. Despite what we all know about his inadequacies. Freo, Geelong, Nth Melbourne, St Kilda, Gold Coast and Crows could all use him with a pick between 25-38 possible. Yes we know he is worth pick 50+

* Brayden Sier: if the right deal came along, it's now or never given we still have him under contract for another year. Bombers have shown interest in the past and their pick 41 this year or a pick next year would help with points we need for McInnes and N Daicos. Potential and patience eventually expires.

* Mason Cox: if Peter Wright or Gunston were available, off-loading his $550,000 deal for 2021 makes sense especially given he is 30 in March.

* Matt Scharenberg: we have given up on him and he naturally needs to pivot and move on. Unlikely to command much other than a late pick.

3.Delistings and Retirees:

* Tom Langdon
* Dayne Beams
* Lynden Dunn
* Chris Mayne: itchy feet wife wanting to go to Perth, best to encourage him
* Travis Varcoe
* Ben Reid
* Tim Broomhead
* Flynn Appleby
* Rupert Wills
* Atu B: harsh but minimal impact in 2 years, time to be ruthless

4. Hopeful Trade in players, Free agents etc... (speculative)

* Jack Gunston: smart, gun, done it, can teach it, still has it
* Peter Wright: an upgrade on Mason Cox with youth on his side
* Cam McCarthy: rookie pick only, train over summer first eg. Bennell, Stack

These selections give us something rock solid reliable, a player about to embark on his best years and a speculative back-up. Adding in a first round pick KPF to naturally grow and develop over the 18-21 years of age period, we are then set up.

5. List Sizes:

It was rumored that 38 main and 2 rookies or 40 and 2 are the likely list sizes for 2021. What they ultimately are shall thereby affect how many delisting's we choose to make. Either way three standout factors exist:

* We should have delisted/retired off 2-3 extra last October allowing us to recruit Jake Riccardi or another

* There is a unique opportunity to do a bigger cull with list numbers being reduced

* We have essentially played 5 short on our list the last few years with Beams (0), Langdon (0), Broomhead (1), Reid (4), Dunn (3), Appleby (1), Atu (3) combining in 2020 for only 12 matches. Yes 7 players played 12 games between themselves this year.

So Ned and Derek, get to work, address the needs and be bold. Premierships are often won in the off-season.

Once we bring them in, can we spend the summer learning how to deliver to them? Forget about working the defence, we've got that locked down, just work every training session on ruck work hitting a midfielder, and midfielders hitting a forward target.

I don't understand how we have salary cap issues.

Not even 2 years ago we were chasing Lynch, we obviously had identified that a big forward was required and we chased him.

Since then we signed Grundy on big money and yes we need to keep Moore, De Goey, Daicos and Mihocek.

However, we will be releasing Reid, Beams, Langdon, Varcoe & Scharenberg. To add to this list, Philips holds some currency, Sier is always injured and has currency and Cox is way to inconsistent & is on too much money.

Get rid of the deadwood & bring in your big forward.

Get Cameron for the love of god, sure he's had an ordinary season but so have the Giants.

Yep, and this means strong ‘trade’ consideration re: likes of Treloar, Adams, Phillips ... who do very little damage by foot. You can carry a few, but not three in your engine room, especially in today’s game.
