Tom McDonald has trimmed down since the end of the season - back to his playing weight in 2018. If that's the case - he will be more mobile and could offer stability at either end of the ground.
Wright and Brown - pass
I wonder if we're interested in Constable from the Cats - he was a highly touted youngster, contested ball player. Will Brodie from Suns is another we should target. |

Our attention should be on players who won't cost much and who have at least 4 years of football ahead of them. Tom McDonald might fit that category because he's a swingman who can kick goals or be moved from attack into defense. Ben Brown and Peter Wright are one dimensional players. At least Peter Wright has time on his side. I'm more than happy for us to go to the national draft and rely on Derek Hines judgement in what he sees. Youth will reward us. Mature age players only plug holes in the short term. That's not what we want. |
I mentioned in the first or second week of the finals that quite a few Geelong supporters that I know have been very unhappy with their recruiting for a number of years as they believe the club is continually aiming at making finals, not winning grand finals. So far they are right. |

My dyed in the wool Cats mates rate Constable. Of the few games I saw him play, he looked capable at the senior level.
If we can't dislodge Angus Brayshaw during the trade period, Constable would be an immediate upgrade on either Wills & Sier.
I'd be happy if he fell our way, maybe keep Eskimo Joe and let The Wombat go. With him, we know what output we're going to get, Eskimo Joe is still an unknown quantity, hence I'd give him one more year. _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)

I was calling for Collingwood to get Constable or Coffeild in thier draft year. We got Stephenson in the end...so not a bad get. _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |

Lol I think you will find Collingwood/ every club have this speech behind a glass sheet with the words..."in case of emergency break glass and insert year" _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |

A versatile player.
One outstanding year in the forward line.
I don't know.
How many good as opposed to great player do we want?????
28 so he has a few years to go.
I keep saying I prefer going to the draft than bringing in a whole bunch of average to good mature players.
But i maybe wrong. |

What is Melbourne willing to take in return for Tom McDonald?
Brown and Hogan are gone I reckon. I'm a bit unsure about Peter Wright, but Essendon are keen.
Does a pick in the late 30's get McDonald? _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Peter Wright would be another list clogger. Couldn't even get a game with the lowly Suns. Pass. I 'd rather give the spot to a kid who might develop into something. |

^^ Tom McDonald if he comes our way will reportedly be groomed as a backman to replace Roughead. Rough will be 30 at the start of the season, McDonald 28.
Look not a bad move if we can get him at the right price. He'd offer us a player that can cover both ends. While I like what Madgen has offered, McDonald would be an upgrade.
Also allows us to groom a young key backman in the interim.
Maybe a straight swap for Phillips? _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)

McDonald would be a better option than Wright because unlike Wright he has shown that he can play at the level. I heard McDonald is on $600,000 for the next two years so a straight swap for Phillips would work well as far as the salary cap issues go. If we got McDonald in then we'd have a bit of flexibility. We could put him up forward or put him down back and play Moore or Howe in the forward line. After seeing how well our backline stood up after we lost Howe this year I reckon we should give him a run in the forward line and see if he can provide us with a bit more marking power inside F50. _________________ The beatings will continue until moral improves. |

The problem is, he's not really worth 600k per year... _________________ All Aboard!! Choo Choo!!! |
