Interesting question whose answer depends upon definition of best.

Most important? (i.e. player we could least afford to lose)
Grundy
Moore
Mihocek

I would replace Mihocek with Pendles. His leadership and value on the ground is greater than Mihocek's.

^^^

I certainly considered Pendles as one of the most important (just as I did Grundy for most consistent).

I guess with Pendles he's at a position of depth - we have a very strong and talented midfield so his absence, while still huge, could be better covered than Mihocek at a position of scarcity. In no way am I saying Mihocek is better than Pendles, just that his replacement would see a larger drop off.

The really good thing about this discussion is that it becomes obvious we don't have a clear top 3. We have a very even playing list with incredible talent across the board. Picking only 3 is entirely subjective.

Maybe 90nice means in 3-4 years, Will Kelly will be playing for either North or Adelaide.

1. Grundy
2. Pendlebury

3. Moore, De Goey, Howe, Crisp, Maynard, Sidebottom, Adams, Treloar, Mihocek
4. Roughead, Elliott, Stephenson, Mayne, Phillips, WHE

That is a hell of a lot of talent right there.

Hard to split some players...So where to start:

IMO, The best player/s are the ones who beat their opponent at the centre and around the ground stoppages. They are worth gold, and it would take some doing for other positions to usurp them.

The playmakers.

The coalface is where it all starts ... the players we see in there are the ones who have survived the cull through their junior years. The rest end up on flanks.

It takes a Locket to win a brownlow, but it takes a champion.

Grundy has first dibs, and clearly as the league's premier Ruckman is our #1.

I would give Trealor #2. A gun.

Only pipped because he is now only a Rolls in 3rd gear is Pendles #3.

First stepping out of the middle, Moore - he is THAT GOOD !. #4 (Brownlow some day)

Toss up at #5 Adams , Howe

How close are De Goey, Crisp, Sidebottom ?

How far away from #6 is superpick Roughead ?

Did I forget Maynard who came back this pre-season looking like he wants to be Dustin Martin? And he might just surprise us all and get reasonably close in a year or two.

And can commentators stop referring to the previous U18 AA as a good old-fashioned footballer ? I did. I noticed those words sticking in Carey's throat a couple of weeks ago lol

it depends on the style. Heres my top 5.

Grundy for making ruck job an art work.
Pendles footy smarts, very silky and great timing
Adams pure grunt on ball ( this is what we need more of)
Moore great reader of the ball and able to cut off opposition forward entries with ease.
Stevo out and out speed worth a try on the wing.

These top 5 to me are our current top 5 and all display different qualities.

Our most important player in terms of structure and play is out of:

Adams and the ever so reliable
Pendles

As in our next best thing is:

Will Kelly
IQ

Moore has already established himself and is still very young same as Grundy.Plenty of footy left.

To me Pendles need 1 more premiership for my liking.
