Yep. Might have done both knees in one match: 1979 Qualifying final against the Roos.

Yes he did both in the same game, but I recall it was in 1980 not 1979. Edwards played in the 79 GF against Carlton, pack marked in the square and kicked our last goal if I remember correctly. He was a very good player that year and one of the reasons that we made the GF.

In 1980 we were close to the fence behind the city end goal square, so after buggering one knee at CHF Edwards was moved to FF and did the second knee there.

I think that was the same game that Briedis knocked out Wearmouth just after the opening bounce, and was suspended for many weeks. That just fired up Stan who responded by knocking out Briedis (not reported) then Cassin (not reported) so North were down 2 players for the game. Stan wasn't finished though. He also ko'd Blight (once again, not reported) and once Blight came around North would have been one short if he went off so he leaned up against the goal post for support for a lot of the remainder of the game. Maybe that head knock explains some of the strange things that Blight says.

Stan was THE Man

Brad Hardie & Ricky Olarenshaw. The Chad Morrison trade was a disaster too

At least teak is water resistant and durable

Brad a residual selection, same with Ricky Olaren "unsure" and Chad was hardly a boom recruit.

Yep 1980 must have been. Do remember it being against the Roos and happening at the Ponsford end of proceedings.

My candidate is Bill Valli. Played 17 games for the Pies in 1979, mostly in the forward pocket. Played one for Bombers the following season. Apparently he was a pretty good player for West Perth. At Collingwood he could win the ball but his disposal, particularly in front of goal was terrible. I used to refer to him as the cross-eyed sandgroper. We made the Grand Final and should have won the flag, but Bill wasn't in the Final team and I don't think that he played much of a role in our getting there.

Reckon he bagged a few goals early in the 1979 season but yes he was part of a few duds whom got games and recruited during that period. These players also say hello:

* Stephen Roach: yes the wrong Roach
* Allan Davis: over the hill ex Saint
* Jon Hummel: ex Swan
* Ian Low: ex Bulldog slow coach

When I saw Ian Low mentioned, the next player I thought of was Michael Woolnough. Both played in the 1980 G F

Both well past their uses by date by then.

1977 - Sam Kekovich 4 games, 4 goals

1978 - Laurie Sandilands 4 games, 6 goals

1982-84 - Graham Teasdale 14 games, 21 goals

I mentioned Chad because that trade resulted in Chris Egan (pick 10, 27 games in 4 years) coming to the club

Hardie played 20 games and averaged 2 goals, 19 possessions in his last season at the Bears, before managing just 2 games with us

from big footy re 2008

Poor old problem with Billy is that plain and simply, he was no bloody good. It was immediately obvious when you watched him play and it is staggering that allegedly astute recruiters could even see an AFL standard player.

As pointed out above he is was not overly tall, was not athletic, was slow, had no footy smarts and really had no attributes that were immediately appealing. I'm sure he's a great bloke and a decent country league player so please dont attack me.

A few years ago after a Willi v Bullants game at Preston my brother and I had a good chat with Brad Gotch after the game and of course we discussed alot of the Collingwood listed players that day. We told him we thought that Billy was a dud and could never see him playing ones but Gotchy kept sticking up for him and towed the company line about improvement, development etc. Anyways, after discussing other players we kept at him about Billy relentlessly (but in good humour because we all knew that Gotchy was trying to say the right thing) until eventually he relented and admitted Billy was no good. Of course, he was delisted at the end of the year. Very Happy

Billy Morrison was another Noel Judkins special in his 2003 swansong as Head Recruiter.

Noel Judkins was an inept buffoon, who ultimately cost us 2002 flag.

David Mundy was the most durable player from that draft, and I'll go on the record as saying that was almost as big a ballzup as the Pavlich farce.
