I would say none bar Grundy would be in even the top 3 teams in the AFL Spines...

Grundy and Gawn would be dueling for 1 ruck.

Other than that, the others would all have at least 3 spines ahead of them in the AFL

IDK but is the spine so relevant in AFL today? The days of FF kicking a tonne are gone, which also reduces the importance of the FB. Multiple pathways to goal, and therefore a versatile defense, is the modern way

What's with all of this picking players out of position?

Howe at CHB? That's Moore's spot, with Roughy at FB.

Hurn isn't a FB either. He's no KPP. That's Barrass or Schofield's role.

That is not even the best spine at Collingwood, let alone the AFL.

It's West Coast hands down....

FYI, Howe is not a CHB
Mihocek is too short to play CHF is Degoey is FF

Let's not mince words. We don't have the best spine in the AFL. What we have is some of the best rebounders in the game from half back to half forward and one of the most versatile attacks in the competition.

Thanks for feedback guys.

The spine will always be important in footy even more with 6 6 6 rule.

I’ve watched a lot of footy , afl , country , junior and the best teams always had a common denominator and that was key position players.

Don’t tell me wingers and flankers are gonna win you flags but put them around a strong spine and bingo.

4 of 5 players in my spine made the Vic and All Star Team.

I’d say that’s a pretty good spine ?

How many from West Coast ???

I’d say we have best spine in league.

Howe named at CHB in all stars .

Mihocek is a mobile chf with great pressure and can stand up in big games.

Degoey plays mostly at FF and pinch hits in middle when fit. Could be anything. Gun and could be as good as Martin one day.

Pendles in vic team and arguably our greatest player of all time.

Grundy ruck in All star team. AA ruck.

Why all the negative nellies here ?

Not negative nellies about us having a strong team, but not No 1 when you objectively examine the spine.

Howe isn't a CHB, he's a third tall/flanker.
You've selectively omitted Roughead.

WCE have not made their players available for SOO, best I can tell.
Otherwise, Josh Kennedy (Vic)
Jack Darling would be picked ahead of Taylor Walker these days.
Jeremy McGovern would also be selected.
Tim Kelly is the only player in the 2019 Brownlow top 10 not playing.
So noting their absence is not objective either.

Richmond (who have recently lost Rance)
FB Grimes
CHB Astbury
Centre Martin
CHF Lynch
FF Riewoldt
Ruck Nankervis

goes OK too

GWS
FB Davis
CHB Haynes (All Australian squad)
Centre Coniglio/Kelly/Whitfield
CHF Finlayson (who kicked more than any Pie last year as did Himmelberg)
FF Cameron (No 1 in AFL)
Ruck Jacobs

is as good as any too.
