Another day of very modest increases across the country.

Victoria recorded it's lowest daily total of new cases since March 16. Though, nine of the sixteen new cases were acquired through community transmission so that remains a concern.

They need to keep increasing and expanding the scope of testing.

Agree. The more testing the better.

In proportion to the number of deaths we've had in Australia, I think our real number is in the ballpark range.

NZ is getting international media attention now*, with few new cases and only one death, but their testing numbers are not so high. (I don't have their latest figures, and I'd like the most recent figures for all countries actually. It was about 30,000 tests about a week or so ago. We're over 60,000 now, but our state population is higher.)

If only all countries did it like Iceland (which does have a much smaller population). We and probably all of the English-speaking countries refuse tests to asymptomatic people.** Iceland has tested over 7% of its entire population.

* e.g. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/new-zealand-isnt-just-flattening-the-curve-its-squashing-it/2020/04/07/6cab3a4a-7822-11ea-a311-adb1344719a9_story.html

"It took only 10 days for signs that the approach here — “elimination” rather than the “containment” goal of the United States and other Western countries — is working.
...
The response has been notably apolitical. The center-right National Party has clearly made a decision not to criticize the government’s response — and in fact to help it."

** Now I see this: "A recent study, published in the British Medical Journal, suggested that 78% of people with COVID-19 have no symptoms." Shocked Can it really be that high? Shocked Time to look at that in a new post...

On a per capita basis, Australia is still testing more than New Zealand.

78% Shocked

The other day, Dr Anthony Fauci from the USA suggested that asymptomatic carriers of the disease could be up to 50%.

Where to from here will be the trick. The lockdown provisions seem to have flattened the curve but what next?

We can keep this up until the virus is basically wiped out here, but then we need to keep the force field up so no one comes in from overseas until there's a vaccine.

I heard on the radio earlier today that there will be consideration into lifting some restrictions soon and using WA and SA as the crash test dummies

At some point, vaccine or not, people have to get exposed to this is some way shape or form to develop some immunity.

Nat Fyffe is being criticised for going surfing near Margaret River whilst driving for his fathers trucking business based in Lake Grace 400 km away. Apparently they pick up lime nearby and truck it back there, crossing regional boundaries that are being enforced. Its all over the local press social media. Locals are already "off" holiday home owners relocating from Perth and crowding the surf. Funny but they have forgotten all about the great whites chasing the salmon at this time of the year!
Its like being in the middle of a science fiction/ bad satire movie

Who could possibly enforce that? I wouldn't be very optimistic about their prospects of success.

I can't possibly see how they could. What court could have the power to compel China to pay anything?

Looking at the US figures by state, New York is so far out in front it's ridiculous
