4 people died in NSW overnight. According to the Guardian's coronavirus blog, the NSW Health Director of Health Protection Jeremy McAnulty says that "three of the four people who died overnight likely acquired the coronavirus on board the Ruby Princess".
31: A 91-year-old man died at Port Macquarie hospital.
32 and 33: An 80-year-old man and a 76-year-old died at Westmead.
34: A 61-year-old died at Hornby.
Doing the best one can to correct obvious typos in blogs (the ABC's, in this case), the Director seems to have said that, of the 2,580 confirmed cases in NSW:
- 1,566 were acquired overseas;
- 578 were acquired locally from a confirmed case or cluster;
- 380 were locally acquired but without direct contact with a known case or cluster; and
- 56 cases remain under investigation. |

And in Victoria, from The Age:
Small rise in Victorian cases of community transmission
By Paul Sakkal
Of the 20 new confirmed cases overnight in Victoria, only two were acquired locally, representing the smallest daily increase in this type of transmission for ten days.
A total of 75 people have contracted the virus from people not linked to someone who caught the virus overseas, up from 73 yesterday.
The number of locally transmitted cases has more than tripled since a week ago, when there were only 21. |

Professor Brendan Murphy, the Chief Medical Officer confirmed we have 2000 recoveries nationwide which is great news. However, we do not have a state by state breakdown of these figures.
In terms of the numbers, these are the recovery numbers we know:
- Victoria = 573
- Western Australia = 148
- South Australia = 46
- Australian Capital Territory = 28
- Tasmania = 26
- Queensland = 8*
- New South Wales = 4*
- Northern Territory = 1
If I had to guess, I estimate NSW has anywhere between 900-1000 recoveries, and Queensland has approximately 300-350 recoveries. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

^ In the short term, it is probably more dangerous than usual to eat the rich. |

35: ABC radio is reporting that a 78 year old man with underlying health conditions has died in in the Prince Charles Hospital in Queensland today after returning from a cruise.
Edit: The ABC is now reporting that the cruise was on the Ruby Princess. That makes 11 of 35 deaths so far from that one ship.

Yeah, I'm in Banyule, been watching the rate climb. Might be a few rich in parts of Heidelberg or Ivanhoe, not many in Watsonia. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

^ Thanks for providing the link, K.
A very useful resource, and it condenses all the important information that is required rather than searching for multiple sources to find the necessary information. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

It's a bit useless comparing the infection numbers for different states when they have different populations. Is NSW really that much worse than the other states?
Well, yes.
NT 117
Tas 160
WA 191
Qld 197
Vic 201
SA 246
ACT 253
NSW 353
(Number of infections per million)
NSW by far the worst; SA is bad, Vic, Qld and WA all in the middle of the pack, Tasmania and the Territory least affected. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |
