Big task for Maxwell, now. If he doesn’t hang in, the Stars are probably done.

He goes lbw. I’m not watching any further.

See you for Collingwood’s season.

Maxy claims Smith, with his first ball.

Maxy will now tell Zampa -- and Leach -- not to get too cocky, because he only troubles selfish flat-track bullies (FTBs) with defective techniques (when it might be more useful keeping them at the crease anyway, so they can run out their batting partners).

----------------------

It's good they at least got some sort of game. What was the crowd size? 10,000?

[Answer: 10,121. Pathetic, huh?]

----------------------

Meanwhile, the SMH headline writers could not resist:

"Raining champs: Deluge stops long enough for Sixers to win BBL final."

And then this:

"The Sixers' faithful all clearly had a good sense of humour if they were prepared to sit on wet seats and drink $10 mid-strength beers from plastic cups."

And this:

"Maxwell quipped afterwards he got out to ''the one ball Steve O'Keefe spins all tournament''."

[Did any of Maxy's balls spin?? Spin or not, SO'K is dangerous in the BBL (more dangerous than Lyon). The FTB is lucky he doesn't have to face him either, especially since he cannot even handle Leach.]

Almost as bad as NZ just losing 6/22 against India. From cruising at 3/119, needing about 6.6 per over, they were suddenly 9/141. They ended up losing by 8 runs. ...

They're doing it again in NZ, albeit it in the ODI format - NZ has gone from 1/142 in 26.3 overs - and looking set for 320 to 330 - to 7/187 in 37.4 overs.

They appear to have recovered okay.

NZ 8/273 (50) defeated India 251 (48.3) and take the series 2-0.

NZ's unbeaten 9th-wicket partnership was 76 in 51 balls.

And all of this with the best Test batsman in the world out injured.

"The club's list manager Trent Woodhill and coach David Hussey are set to face some difficult calls in the coming weeks. Veteran batsman Ben Dunk was recalled to the Stars' XI for Saturday night's final and failed again, making just 11, leaving his average at 16.72 across 34 innings for the club since signing in 2017.

Dunk still has two seasons left on what cricket sources have indicated is a lucrative contract, although the Stars could conceivably look to reach a settlement with the former international. Nic Maddinson, who made a fourth-ball duck on Saturday night to cap off a miserable first two seasons at the club in which he averaged 10.75 across 24 innings, is also contracted for next season.

Speaking on Channel Seven, Paine took aim at the Stars over their finals woes.

"It is certainly mental ... they have fallen over within finals cricket,” Paine said."

(D. Cherny, The Age)

[My impression has always been that Woodhill is a clueless simpleton who just lucked out. It looks like he just coached kids in an area of Sydney where there was some concentration of talented juniors who went on to international careers, not due to the amateur coaches they had. From this, he gained credibility simply by association, and the foolish, unprofessional cricket world lapped up his snake oil, and now he is rich and successful, but no more knowledgeable or wise about cricket than the grandmother next door who is not rich or successful.

The Stars were fools to hire him, though not the first fools, and probably not the last. Who made this hire? Not Eddie, was it??]

And they do it again.

India 7/296
NZ 5/300 (47.1)

The 47th over, Thakur to CdG, went 4 wide dot 4 6 4 1.

NZ win series 3-0.

Are T20I & ODI so different? The results have been maximally different on this tour. Let's see what happens in the Tests.

Get on red: Klinger backed to rebuild Renegades

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/cricket/get-on-red-klinger-backed-to-rebuild-renegades-20200313-p549t8.html

"Coach Michael Klinger has been endorsed to resurrect the Melbourne Renegades by being awarded a two-year contract extension.
...

However, outside of leading the Gloucestershire T20 program in England, he had not coached a side before he was appointed as Renegades coach, edging the likes of Brad Hodge, Trevor Bayliss and David Saker.

His appointment surprised many, particularly as he had been due to be the Melbourne Stars' batting coach."

Review complete but can Big Bash get back on the front foot?

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/cricket/review-complete-but-can-big-bash-get-back-on-the-front-foot-20200304-p546qp.html

"In an ideal world, the tournament would know what it stands for by this stage yet cricket officials still keep asking that same question.

Australian Cricketers' Association chief Alistair Nicholson falls into that category, questioning whether the BBL is more about entertainment or a serious competition.
...

The BBL leapt from 35 games in 2016-17 to 43 the following season, to 59 in 2018-19 to 61 this season, with each side having 14 home-and-away matches. Was that financial greed running amok? Some have privately said yes. The current broadcast deal, in which it has emerged Channel Seven looked to off-load the rights back to Channel Ten, has locked in the expanded schedule until at least 2024.
...

The ACA won't budge on allowing more than two international players in an XI.
...

Cricket's most lucrative T20 competition, the Indian Premier League, allows up to four foreign players in an XI."
