No injuries, but GWS played a very physical match. They'll have some sore players and have to back up next week. I'd say we'll be streets ahead of them as far as player fitness is concerned when the PF rolls around (if they make it).

Knocked out the Bombers and the Dogs though. I'd suggest God has a sneaky grin right now.

We only managed 65 rotations so we were out on our feet towards the end.

I think we can cover JDG and Greenwood. Greenwood can be covered by say, Goldsack, or Magden, and one thing, JDG did not spend much time up forward last night, he didn't do a great deal prior to going off, correct ? I really hope he comes up for the GF, if we make it. But, for the Prelim, why not play Varcoe or Aish, in his spot, even Wells? I dunno, but I reckon we can cover them, we do have great depth now.

I agree Rudey, celebrate this for a little while! I’m lovin it!

Hi Jo [and Rudey], sorry if my OP sounded somewhat dry and bereft of joy! I'm simply trying to keep the lid on things after the horror of 2018, and not dilute the super importance of this superb victory Very Happy

I was absolutely stoked for the win last night, considering the caliber of players missing through injury.

But it was more a feeling of relief, and merely a stepping stone to something way more important, and totally achievable, ahead of us.
It was to me simply phase-1, of a 3-4 step process we need to master.

But hey, damn right celebrate the win for the next two weeks in whatever fashion floats ones boat! Smile

Personally, I'm filing this win in the "Tick: assignment complete" folder, and going into analytical mode about how we take down our next opponent.
And hoping those contenders literally smash the shit out of the other in the process; I care little for any rate of attrition at their end of the street.

But job well done Pies, both on and off the field! Go you good things!

I'm yet to watch our GWS loss from several rounds ago; however that might be my first task, to see what can be corrected should we encounter them in the PF.

ps. Eat a super-sized bucket of fried dick, Geebung and Scott; you earned it.

Nice to hear David King call out Chris Scott’s poor coaching on radio today. Now I wait with bated breath for someone to cast a critical eye over Joel Selwood. Once again he went missing in a big game for his side and once again he escapes scrutiny. Good player when the Cats’ midfield included Bartel, Ablett, Champman, et al. Personally, I’ve always regarded him as vastly overrated.

Nice to see Duckwood returning to his position as the number one Aussie bleeder. Geez that guy cuts more easily than a punch drunk boxer in the 15th round against Mike Tyson.

He did get in some cheap shots on our kids though, true to form.

I watched the replay of the game, and I can't cast any vote. Cannot possibly decide who our best 5 exactly were. This was a massive team effort.

TBH, I think we smashed them in the midfield, due to the ferocious pressure of both Tay and Wombat. Tim Kelly likewise was basically non-existent for them. Losing Duncan turned out to be a massive blow for them, since that meant they basically had only one effective midfielder - Dangerfield.
You may or may not be right about Selwood, but I think his lack of impact during the game was much more due to our midfield ascendancy than anything else.

GWS game was a first quarter car crash but we kicked 10:8 to 11:7 after quarter time so held our own. The difference is this time we won’t have Flynn Appleby playing as a key position back. So we will have much better match ups. Also we were in a form slump when we played them notwithstanding the win against the Weagles.

Further we have a rest while they need to play away in Brisbane, should they beat the Lions, which I suspect they will.

Mihocek's game was superb- did so much stuff off the all and contested everything- most of trime he spilt a contest when he had 2 cats on him. He is a peerless clubman.

Agree - he was highly competitive the whole game despite not ending up with much of the ball. Should've got a free in front of goal in the last when he almost ended up headless after a crude spoiling attempt. The umps seemed to have no trouble finding frees in the cats forward line, but lost their bionic vision when the violations were in our f50.
