VFLW Match Report: Pies down Hawks

Collingwood’s VFLW team has scored its first win over the season, upsetting reining premiers Hawthorn by 26 points at Victoria Park on Saturday.

Magpies coach Penny Cula-Reid credited the win to her players’ ability to carry out their leaders’ instructions.

“It was a real learning game for us when you look back on the game from round one,” Cula-Reid told collingwoodfc.com.au.

VFLW: Pies down Cats

"Collingwood's VFLW team has added another win to its books after claiming a seven-point victory over Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.

Magpies’ co-captain Ruby Schleicher was happy with her team’s efforts and admitted relief to secure a second win for the season.

“Obviously it’s good to get the four points on the road otherwise it would’ve been a long drive back to Melbourne without them,” Schleicher told collingwood.com.au."

Round 4 vs NT Thunder

Saturday 1st June, 2pm @ Victoria Park

"Two star players have been named in Collingwood’s VFLW side to take on the Northern Territory Thunder at Victoria Park this Saturday.

Making her first appearance in the stripes is former AFLW Carlton captain Brianna Davey.

Since signing with the Pies in April, the 24-year-old midfielder has been heavily involved with the group and has played a key role in the VFLW coaching box.

Chloe Molloy will also make her long-awaited return to the field after battling the lisfranc injury she sustained in Collingwood’s VFLW preliminary final against Geelong last year.

Also to debut is former Thurgoona Bulldog, and sister of Collingwood AFL rookie Max, Sally Lynch.

Playing her first VFLW match of the season is Collingwood AFLW speedster Sarah Dargan."

The win marks the Pies' third in a row and they now sit in third position on the ladder.

Collingwood debutant Brianna Davey was excited to run out with the team for the first time.

Pies edge out Demons

https://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2019-06-09/vflw-match-report-pies-edge-out-demons

"Collingwood’s VFLW team has claimed its fourth win in a row, defeating the Casey Demons by three points at Casey Fields on Sunday.
The Demons started off strong with dominant pressure around the ball.

The Pies sought options wide but appeared hesitant, struggling to get the ball into their forward line.
Demon Maddy Guerin was quick to hit the scoreboard, producing a goal from a set shot just outside 50.

Sarah Dargan swiftly responded, snapping a goal on the run but was soon followed was Katherine Smith taking another for the Dees.

But it was all the Pies in the second term, with the Demons unable to score.

In her first game back of the VFL season, Steph Chiocci was dominant, kicking two goals, one of which proved vital for the Pies in narrowing the Demons' lead to a single point early in the second term.

Slotting her second for the day was Dargan, taking the Pies into the lead where they’d remain for the rest of the game.

Still, in the third quarter the Pies appeared to have slightly lost their nerve, struggling to move the ball forward and make the most of their opportunities that ultimately saw them goalless throughout the term.

The Demons were able to capitalise with Ainslie Kemp and Guerin taking two important goals to narrow Collingwood's lead to three points at the final change.
It was all or nothing for both sides as they returned in the fourth, a goal from co-captain Grace Buchan gave the Pies the buffer they needed.
A late snap from Casey's Harriet Cordner narrowed the margin again to three points, but the Pies managed to hold on and walk away victors."

Collingwood 1.0 4.3 4.4 5.4 (34)
Casey 2.1 2.1 4.0 5.1 (31)

Goals – Collingwood: Dargan 2, Chiocci 2, Buchan
Casey: Guerin 2, Smith, Kemp, Cordner

Best - Collingwood: Molloy, Davey, Allen, Bonnici, Chiocci, Schleicher, Lee.
