Yes we did. We stuck it out, stopped them from getting in front on the scoreboard. We won it. |
spot on
a bit of luck is needed but not "very lucky."
we worked bloody hard to stem the tide and preserve our lead. we did not lose it for the whole match.
how can you say that is "very lucky?"
talk about the umpiring as long as you like and you will see quite a few that went the wrong way from both sides. Class act from pendles not to bite back from the vileful crowd noise post match and the stamp of resolution from what Bucks said to back his captain our captain. The Anzac message was lost with that reaction from some Essendon people as well as Nathan's tribute to his dad, a Vietnam Vet. Unfortunately for them they can add sour grape losers to drug cheats. it brings back memories from 90. Typical bomber riposte; "Oh you only won it cos of the draw in the first week which threw us out". give us a break. why could you not beat us for 3 years after that if it was sich a fluke. worst losers of the lot. suck your own boowater _________________ woodsmen rule |

That was fanned by Sheedy, who made making excuses for coaching failure into an art form. That's always been seen as not the thing to do, but all the coaches who didn't do it got sacked within a decade and he last over two decades, so it worked for him. |

Big credit to Pies fans for showing grace in the face of several poor umpiring decisions in this match and the Grand Final. Shame that the Bombers fans are such poor sports and whinging losers.

Just watched the replay. Man we owned that first quarter; it was a shame we couldn't capitalise on the scoreboard. 6 goals to 1 would have changed the dynamics of the game from then on. Second quarter was a bit tighter and almost even. In the third and fourth they came out and threw everything at us. It was certainly high pressure football. They would've beaten most other teams under those circumstances but I think we showed great composure under pressure and answered the challenge. The modern game is all about momentum now. Once you have that you control the game. I think what we're trying to do is work out when to hit teams hard and when to take our foot off the pedal. Sure there were a lot of skill errors but it's common among all teams at the moment because of the way the game is played. We really need to start winning the clearances and there needs to be better communication between our rucks and mids. Scoreboard pressure needs improvement too. That's essentially what kept the drug cheats in the game. We kick straighter and it's out of their reach. They switch off and we have control. You can't afford to let opposition sides have a sniff. |

We are on that path WW. As our team ages they will start owning the whole first half instead of just the first 40 minutes. Our journey is only beginning. _________________ Get back on top. |

It's going to be a big Anzac Game. Both teams in the top 8.
We should see another 90+ thousand there. Might even beat the 94,825 from 1995. |
Three biggest Anzac crowds:
1995: 94,825
2013: 93,373
2019: 92,241 (2,578 short).
Close, but not close enough. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Sidey has been on song all six games and tho not afraid to mix it much of his play is finding space and creating play
Thursday he bodied a player out and kicked a goal
Then when we had to keep Sherrin in our part of the park again used the body to stop a player in his tracks
Well done Rusty _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Was it the sling tackle?
Can't remember which pie player it was. |
Yes, that was Howe's tackle. |
They will have a real good look at this one. Ridley staggered off but he wasn’t knocked out cold at all. There was no malice or intent by Howe but the old “ duty of care “ card tends to come out every time someone gets the wobbles up. Watch this space. |

Five rounds in and there was a lot of people siting us as a good thing for the flag
The Anzac Day game was a grind and took everything we had to beat a rising side
Was this game a look at our vulnerability OR a look at our refusal to be beaten
This is going to be a tough season for everyone and wins could well be hard won
Port is a danger game but then again every game this season will be the same
My hope is we are strong and committed _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

"NO AFL footballer has conceded more points from turnovers this year than ... Dylan Shiel. ...
... his 10 turnovers. ...
Collingwood kicked two goals off those giveaways ... taking the ex-Giant's season tally in that department to a League-leading 50 points from 10 scoring shots."
PLAYER; TURNOVERS PER GAME; DISPOSALS BY TURNOVER; POINTS CONCEDED; TAKEAWAYS; UNFORCED GIVEAWAYS
Andrew Gaff 8.5 3.9 10.3 5.5 1.0
Jaeger O'Meara 7 4.4 5.6 3.6 1.8
Dylan Shiel 6 5 8.3 2.8 0.7

It was amazing to look around the ground on ANZAC Day and wonder where the 8,000 empty seats were! |

Finally got around to watching the replay.
The booing was very poor at the end, mainly when Pendles was announced the winner and talking.
Of the frees that have been highlighted, three of them were at the beginning of the final quarter. And all three led to Essendon getting the ball anyway and have zero impact on the score. When looking at the footage where all the players stopped, the right call was made and Essendon got the ball out anyway.
Plenty of high tackles were missed, the Tippinwutti one has been highlighted but there was one to Grundy and one to Pendlebury missed.
Pendles free was not an act as has been pointed out. His head was over the ball, and Im fairly sure you're told not to bump from the front in the under 8's. Anyone that thinks that isnt a free kick is kidding themselves.
Pendels was also easily the best player of the day. He could have won the medal even if Essendon had won. Shiel had a lot of the ball, but gee wizz, he missed a lot of targets. Saad in my opinion was Essendons best player, Daniher may have won the medal based on the goals he kicked.
The final minutes of the game were the stuff heart attacks are made from. Essendon couldn't get the ball forward and they had a few chances. The free kick to Brown in the final minute was 100% in the back, however Stephenson was probably caught holding the ball which the umpire missed. He did kick the ball once he'd hit the ground, but I think could have been paid holding. Did he have prior opportunity? It's close.
Anyway, boo the umpires, I get it. But it was out of hand and embarrassing for Essendon supporters once the medal was being accepted. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |
