From a purely intellectual standpoint I don't understand why these terrorists of whatever political persuasion go after civilians, it's not a tactic that's ever really worked. Even when done on a fairly large scale (London Blitz for example) it only ever hardens resolve against their views.
Even if white supremacist terrorism managed to inspire others in mass attacks (Brevik was apparently some inspiration for Tarrant) they're not even close compared to the sheer numbers of Islamic terrorists and those guys haven't really gained any ground in their global holy war. Western empathy and immigration policy has done more for the spread of Islam than thousands of suicidal jihadis so what makes white secular terrorists think "this time it's going to work"? |

Wokko, it isn't a "tactic" - it's just another expression of blind "by the numbers" hatred by a white supremacist. Deny the holocaust? Tick. Carry a copy of Mein Kampf? Tick. Join the KKK? Tick. Plan to kill a whole lot of law-abiding people for no possible reason? Tick.
There's no political struggle of any kind in Pueblo, Colorado between the 35 or so families who attend this synagogue and, well, anybody. |

I have it good authority that the 35 or so families who attend the Synagogue are planning to pray on the Sabbath and have chicken soup on Sabbath eve
The chickens of course are rightfully nervous and planning a liaison with the Turkeys before this years Thanksgiving. If the chickens are nervous what about the Turkeys?

Nah, I agree with Wokko on both counts, it's a tactic and it generally doesn't work.
I also agree with calling it terrorism.
The only difference between a white supremacist terrorist and an Islamic fundamentalist terrorist is the colour of their underpants. Both have a warped view based on their belief system, both spend time online with like minded imbeciles reinforcing this, both have the IQ of plankton and both believe they're working for a higher calling.
Terrorism and the killing of innocents for a cause has been happening for decades. You'd remember the 70's (1970's) and the IRA and PLO .
Where terrorism does work is it tends to change behaviour, but seldom achieves it's goals apart from that.
For comparison, look at the Vegas shooter or Martin Bryant who both killed a bunch of random people for no apparent reason.

Of course it's terrorism. It's the complete lack of any viable, goal-directed behaviour to it that I don't get.
It wouldn't be in any way better if there were a discernible purpose - but at least it might be explicable as something other than a pointless and vindictive manifestation of mouth-breathing hatred. |

| There certainly is a particular constellation of brain dysfunctions that are almost always associated with white supremacism. It seems to be necessary to deny basic scientific knowledge in unrelated areas in order to be genuinely xenophobic. |
