Keep in mind, these ratings are not a human assessment.

However, one flaw, for me, is that current players (players who've played at least one Test) who don't play, for whatever reason (form, injury), lose points.

2 that readily come to mind are Sids & Patto. Starc also lost points during the Ashes, missing 4 Tests.

So, Australia has three bowlers and three batsmen each in the top 7. That’s about right.

Cummins' 5fa will push him back over the 900 mark. Patto's 6 wickets will boost his lowly (99th.) ranking.

Williamson will lose points but not his #3 ranking, as he has a good break on Pujara & Labu. Head will move up.

Ponting (you know where the video is! ) says he does not like the rankings, calling them "frail".

He points out (recently) top-10 ranked batsmen Latham and Nicholls have Test averages of 42 and 40.


[But that on its own doesn't damn the rankings. It could be that their averages in recent months have been much higher, or that most other batsmen are doing even worse. Latham does have harder conditions opening.

That said, I don't think ICC ratings should ever be taken too seriously. Just remember Dilip Vengsarkar. The people who do this stuff don't understand how difficult it is to do properly.]
