The problem is the AFL has diluted the draft advantages so heavily for the Vic clubs, there is little incentive for clubs to invest future resources in identifying talent from non football backgrounds. The clubs don’t push back to hard either because the reduced post Covid cap would have likely seen that area of funding slashed anyway.
Conversely, it still remains a viable proposition for the northern clubs because they don’t have the draft restrictions placed on them like the Vic clubs.
We should almost move on from thinking we will secure a decent talent via the NGA pathway. If he was any good, then his name is called out early and we can’t match the bid anyway. If he’s nothing special, then he falls through to the tail end of the draft for a good reason.
Lucky we have always had a good selection of F / S prospects coming through. They may not all be world beaters but at least they’re ours if we want them. |

I found it difficult to locate Stan,s family details tho Stan born 1954 played only 98 games for us
Anyway I’d say if Jayden was his kin then he’d be a grandson or maybe great nephew or the like
I really enjoyed watching Stan and the distance many VFL players gave him _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Correct. If related, he would not be Magro’s son but his grandson or grand nephew.
Dear me, the very mention of his son melts my old heart and recalls memories of him towelling up Jezza and Lethal Leigh 😛 Fun days 😝 _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️ |

Post subject: Father-Son Rule | |
|
The father-son rule has existed since 1949. The rule was first implemented to ensure Ron Barassi Jr played for the Melbourne Football Club, the same club as his late father.
To ensure Barassi went to the Demons, despite a family move to the exclusive recruiting residential zone of VFL teams Collingwood and Carlton, the VFL declared a club could seek a clearance for the son of a player with a record of 50 or more games.
The father-daughter rule has existed since the AFLW's formation in 2017.
Criteria are also in place for equivalent mother–son and mother–daughter rules, from such time as the children of AFLW players reach draft eligible age (i.e. at least 18 years of age on 31 December in the year in which they are drafted).
Since 1897, CFC has produced 1,178 players.
I can't find a definitive record of CFC father-sons since 1897, but there's many players e.g. Robert Rose / Robert Rose Jnr, Ken / Jamie Turner whom fell outside the 1986 F/S eligibility, however qualfied under the old 50 game rule.
Or Brad Oborne who's fathers played for the CFC, but didn't play the requisite games to be eligible via the draft.
Since 1986, when an entry draft was first established in the league, CFC had selected 17 father–son draftees.
4 Father-Sons are currently on the CFC Senior list ~ Darcy Moore (126), Josh Daicos (77), Will Kelly (3), Nick Daicos (25).
11 current players have played >100 games for the CFC.
Mason Cox 94 & Josh Daicos 77 are ontrack this year for the same milestone. _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)

That would be interesting—the son of Mason who appears committed to being an Ozzie citizen
A Cox who would actually grow up in Aussie Rules land
And hey if with dads height a Test cricketer qwik

I've had a dig around without success, does anyone have any current season playing updates on Nicky Christian (son of Michael)?
As I understand, he'll be still eligible for F/S draft selection at Collingwood this year. _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)

#5 Thomas McGuane (Western Jets)
27/08/2007 | 176cm | Midfielder/Forward
A lively small who started forward before spending plenty of time in midfield, McGuane snared the game’s opening goal. His smarts and forward craft were on show in the early stages, earning a high free kick to convert his major, and then cutting inboard nicely to assist Archie Ludowyke. While not overly prolific thereafter, McGuane showcased agility and evasiveness in a couple of nice moments, but arguably did his best work inside 50.
Hopefully gets an invite to the draft combine. _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)

My son's assessment of Laurie's list...
"Jett Buckleys a serious Kart racer so I think he’s going down the Motorsport path and doesn’t play much footy. Ayce however, might be added to the deck in 2026!
I think McGuanes kid is meant to be pretty/very good.
Lucas Rocca isn’t much of an athlete and mostly plays basketball but Marcus might be the one to watch out for, apparently a mini Sav.
Oscar Lonie won his teams b&f award at Frankston rovers which is a very good junior club so he’s at least in the frame.
And I expect nothing less than 400 games of perfection from Jax.
The rest I have no idea about but I hope Levi Davis is a gun!" |

Your sons assessment is pretty much bang on Russ. Marcus is watch this space. Sav's 101 games with North needs to taken into account.
Surely like the Clokes, we get one good Rocca out of that mix! (albeit the Jason Cloke discussion might be held / thrashed out elsewhere...)
If we jagged two 100 gamers out of that list it'd be a blessing. _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)
